CHAPTER 4: APPLE OF THE EYE
I don't know if I should be flattered or if I should be annoyed. Be flattered because being addressed as a beautiful creature is kinda a compliment, but coming from a stranger, I kinda doubt it. I am not sure if he's really complimenting me or if he's just a plain flirt.
I just want to turn around a leave, but that'll be rude to Yasmin since we're still talking.
Yasmin seems to notice that I am feeling uneasy, "Hey Dennis how's your painting going?"
"It's almost done, will be shipping it out to Singapore by next month," Dennis said still have his eyes on me.
"That's nice," Yasmin said, "stop oogling Hailey, you might scare her away. I am still in the middle of encouraging her to be my model."
"Is that so? So she's a model as well," Dennis grinned even more with interest.
I shifted on my place, "It was two years ago, I am not sure.."
"What kind of modeling have you done?" Dennis asked cutting me off.
"Ramp and merchandise, it was only a year, I kinda stopped doing it," I said.
"You should try it again, Yasmin here is a very good photographer. Who knows I might buy her shots of you," Dennis said making me gawk at him. Buy my photos? Why would he do that?
"Dennis is a painter, he buys photos to be use as reference," Yasmin explained. I do recall Adela mentioning Dennis being a well-known painter. It'll be an honor to be painted by him, but right now, I am feeling very awkward, "anyway, we should head back to our table."
As we head to our table, I caught Adela and Roseli nudging each other while watching us approach. "You okay?" Adela asked as I sat down beside her.
"Yep," I said as if nothing awkward had happened.
"Someone seemed to be stripping your clothes off in his mind," Roseli said and frown at her as she raised her brow on Dennis's direction.
"Later Ros," Adela said rolling her eyes, "come on, let's enjoy the night first and we'll talk later when we get back at Hailey's."
***
"He's obviously interested," Roseli said as we have out coffee the next day at our porch. We left the after party last night after we finished a bottle of wine. I also accepted Yasmin's offer so she wouldn't feel bad about us leaving the party early.
"That's what I am telling her last night," Adela said and I rolled my eyes on her, "as far as I know, he's a good guy. A well known painter. And I heard he's been single for a couple of years now, probably choosy with women," she added. Then what Yasmin said to me last night played back in my head Dennis seems to have an eye for you,he barely gives any attention to anyone, and it's kinda surprising how he acted on you earlier.
I shaked the thought off. I noticed eyes on me, my friends are staring intently at me. "What?" I frowned.
"You're in deep thoughts," Adela said as my phone vibrated on the table. I took it to check who messaged me. It was an unknown number.
Good morning beautiful. I hope you don't mind that I took your number from Yasmin. -Dennis
My eyes widen upon reading the message. I remember giving my number to Yasmin before we left last night.
"Is everything okay?" Adela asked worriedly.
I just put my phone facing down on the table and avoid their look. "Nothing," I said.
Before I could reach out for my phone again to turn it off, Roseli has it. Ros started reading the message that I forgot to close. "Someone's really interested," she said as she showed Adela the message with a beaming smile.
