"You ready to go?" My best friend asked, peering around the door.
"I guess so," I murmured, picking all my books up and slinging my bag on my back. Today was my first day of university and if I'm honest, I'm scared shitless. I know I shouldn't be, but I am. This is the time of my life
I'll get drunk, I'll have one night stands, I'll dump and date, I'll have to make huge decisions. I'll have my heart broken and so much more. I'm not prepared for all of this to happen, but it will. I'm sure of it. Studying my timetable, I looked up towards Sophie, who was trotting along beside me. She looked so confident.
"I'm in class first, but then I have a free period, do you want to get coffee?" I eagerly asked, wanting to getting into the whole university style of life quickly.
"No can do, I'm in Spanish then and then I have to do any work I get from class" she gave me a sympathetic smile as we separated, to make our first class of the year and not be late.Class flew by, as we learned all about the rules of the law and the acts that have been placed. It did drag on for a while, but when we were excused, I felt glee flow through me as I gathered my stuff and skipped out of the door. Then, I located the nearest coffee shop and went to go and get some coffee.
"Can I have one Decaf Caramel Latte, please?" I asked the cashier, fiddling with my hands behind the counter.
"That'll be £2.85 please" he replied cheerily, as I handed him a £5 note. He gave me my change back and said "Your coffee will be ready soon, go and find a seat"
I did as he said and I examined the shop, picking a table with a leather sofa running along the wall. I sat, taking some extra work out of my bag to do whilst I had my coffee. Better now then later, am I right?
A few minutes passed and a waiter brought me my coffee, placing it on a saucer beside me. I gave him a grateful nod as I looked back down, taking a sip of my coffee as I studied.
Right so, the orders made under the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, section 20(3) are The Disability Discrimination Act 2095 Commencement No.1, No.2 and...
"Hey" a deep voice spoke. I jumped out my skin as I looked slowly up, to see a tan, dark haired boy stood before me. He was hot, but way out of my league. After all, he looks like the university hunk. I, on the other hand, am a geek and study law.
"Uh, hi?" I answered, in a very unsure tone. I didn't really know what to say, he just came up to me in a coffee shop, what does he want me to say?
"Anyone sitting here?" he pointed to the seat next to me, where my bag was placed.
"No, no, not at all," I stammered, pushing my bag off the chair and causing all of the contents to fly out. I buried my head in my hands and sighed, good lord. Slowly and weakly, I rose from my seat, gathering books, textbooks, pencils and all sorts of my paraphernalia that flew around the shop. I got back to my seat and placed my butt down again, just wanting to study. I was not in the mood for talking.
"I'm Calum, and you are?" he looked at me whilst i was trying to study. Again, I sighed, to show him my mood and to make it obvious I really didn't want to talk to him.
"El," I briefly spoke, before looking down at my work again. Jesus, can this kid just leave me alone? Please?
"Look, Calum, I appreciate you're trying to be social and meet new acquaintances, but now is really not the time. I need to study and stuff, I'm really busy, I'm sorry" I said, looking at him. I could see his emotion change, although I'm not sure what to. It was a confusing look, something I couldn't quite grasp..
"Okay, well I'll get going. Here is my number, if you want to call me or anything" he placed a small scrap of paper on the desk, with a heart drawn on the outside. Cute. Showing one last quick smile, he arose from his seat and walked out the shop, the bell dinging. Sighing I went back to my work, sipping my coffee along the way until the last drop trickled down my throat.-----
