it's another topical day at amari's part-time job at the local convenience store. she doesn't mind working here because it's pretty quiet and not a lot of people come in anyway, even though she has the night shift.
the best part of working here is that she gets a discount on food, that's all amari could ever dream of. other than that, it's pretty decent although she have to stand up on her feet all day and deal with annoying, bratty customers sometimes, but she never complained.
another thing she enjoyed about working here was, of course her coworker.
"amari, i'm heading home now," the red-haired boy named hoseok proclaimed while strolling to the door with a hearty smile. "are you sure you'll be fine all by yourself? after all, we are in the bad part of town, you know," he smirked slightly.
hoseok was the first person amari met when she didn't have anyone else. he was a lot more outgoing and brighter than her, and was the first one who initiated the conversation. it was a lifesaver considering she has a hard time starting conversations.
needless to say, hoseok was a great friend to hang out with and would always brighten up the atmosphere with his goofy and vibrant personality.
amari merely rolled her eyes. "if this is another trick to make me scared, it's not gonna work, hobi."
"you're not scared of anything, are you," hoseok asked and she shook her head with a triumphant smirk on her lips. "there must be something—"
"there's a shadow behind you!" amari squeaks out as she points right behind him with a frighten expression plastered on her face.
once hoseok turned around with a ambitious scream, she laughs, holding her stomach. "haha, you should have seen the look on to your face!"
"hey, that wasn't funny! you know how easily scared i get,"he pouts as amari still proceeded on laughing her soul out.
"okay, i'll stop with the pranks from now on," she pledges as she wipes the fallen tears from her eyes.
"promise?"
"promise."
they interlock pinkies before hoseok slides on his oversized jacket and hat. "i'll see you tomorrow, amari~" he chimes with a wave before rushing out the door and out into the frigid night air.
waving goodbye, amari smiles widely as the icy air skirmishes her skin and blows her ebony hair. when the doors close, she sighs as she realizes that she's the only one here tonight.
alone and bored.
she decides to take out her phone to pass the time.
2:00am, her clock read as a discreet yawn escapes her lips. she closes her eyes shut for a moment in hopes to take a quick nap when abruptly the classic bell alerted her that a customer had arrived.
jumping back up and placing her phone back into the safety of her pocket, amari glances up and met the eyes of her customer. her mouth jars agape as she observes the person who's slim legs strides throughout the aisles with ease.
amari studied him up and down, confused and unable to pinpoint his age because his face was similar to a baby's, but his body resembles a grown man. how could someone look like this?
the guy had beautiful smooth sun-kissed skin, ebony unkempt hair concealed by a beanie, a black oversized hoodie, grey sweats, and timberlands.
amari begins to feel flustered when the guy approaches the counter, setting packets of spicy ramen in front of her, and now that he was up close, she noticed how his lips were rosy and plump, how his long locks covers his coffee doe eyes and —
banishing the thoughts out of her head, amari smiles as sweetly as she could. "hello, will this be all?" she asked politely, trying her best to act professional.
"yes," he responded with a low voice while amari starts picking up the items and begins scanning them at a fast pace. suddenly, the boy's eyes goes wide as if he saw a ghost before he frantically shouts out, "wait!"
amari watches as the boy rushes off towards the milk section of the store and rushed back to the counter just in time. "s-sorry, i forgot this," he chuckles nervously as he hands it over to her.
when she picks up the item, she noted that it was banana milk.
amari managed to bag everything up for him and gracefully handed it to him with a smile. "that will be 20.000 won."
the boy glanced down at his wallet and pulled out the amount and placed it down onto the counter. before amari could give him his change, he had already disappeared, the bell chiming on the way out.
that was weird.
