Elena and Stefan had dropped Mary off at her loft, bidding her quiet goodbyes. Just as she was pulling open the door to her building, a large hand clamped around her bicep. Mary yelled out and immediately turned to swing. Another hand caught hers and, much to her relief, there was Alaric standing in front of her.
She retracted her hand with a sheepish smile on her face. "Sorry, jesus. You scared the hell out of me," she said with a laugh.
Alaric smiled back. "Sorry," he responded. "I want to... confront Damon. You want to come with?" Mary nodded her head rapidly.
"Don't have to ask me twice." Alaric then turned, pulling his daughter with him to their car. "What's the plan?" Mary asked as she buckled in. She turned to face her father and quickly threw her unruly blonde hair into a ponytail.
Alaric shrugged. "Go in, stake, get out," he stated, a completely serious look on his face. Mary gawked, her mouth dropping open.
"Thats it?" she questioned. "That's your plan?" Alaric nodded. "You're so stupid."
Alaric turned to look at her, the car jerking a bit as he did so. "You're calling me stupid? Little miss I'm-averaging-a-B-minus." Mary laughed and slapped her fathers arm. "That's what I thought."
It was silent for a bit longer, a comfortable air surrounding them. They then pulled up to the Salvatore Boarding house. Mary had never been and she couldn't help but admire the sheer size. The pair entered the building as quietly as possible, each holding stakes in their hands. As the walked into the parlor, they saw Damon pouring a drink at a small bar.
"Are you really this stupid?" he asked. He finished pouring before turning around to face the hunters. His eyebrows were raised, as though he half expected for them to show up. Mary raised her chin a bit higher, not wanting to show even a moment of weakness. "Guess so."
Damon took a sip of his drink before setting the glass down carefully. Without warning, he sped to Alaric and pushed him across the room. As soon as the man hit the floor, Damon turned. He threw Mary down onto the floor, being careful to keep a foot on her chest. Mary watched as her father stood and assumed a fighting position. "You gonna put down the stake?" Damon asked, glancing down at the girl beneath him. Alaric didn't move. "Wow. That's courage." Damon stepped off the girl and stalked towards Alaric slowly. Mary pushed herself off the floor as he did so and gulped.
Alaric's eyes flashed to hers for a moment before going back to Damon. "Where's Isobel? What have you done to my wife?"
"You want me to tell you I killed her? Would that make you happy?" Damon asked with a scoff. "Because I think you know what happened and I don't think you want to keep risking your daughters life."
"We saw you feeding on her," Mary said from behind. Damon turned and his brows furrowed for a moment.
"Yeah, I did," he stated. "And I wasn't lying. She was delicious." Alaric rushed at Damon angrily before he was hit in the stomach. He keeled over and fell back onto the floor. Mary felt tears grow hot in her eyes as she watched, too scared to try and go against the vampire. "Oh, come on. What do you think happened? Not an inkling? Never considered the possibility?" Alaric looked up, his angry gaze not faltering. Mary felt the tears begin to slip out. "I turned her."
"Why?" Alaric questioned, his eyes casting down for a moment.
"She came to me. All pathetic, looking for vampires. There was something about her, something I liked. There was something special," Damon claimed and Mary moved towards him a bit, as quietly as she could.
Alaric's voice quivered as he responded, "You turned her because you liked her?"
"No, I slept with her because I liked her," Damon said and Mary huffed in rage. "I turned her because she begged me to. Yeah. Butyou knew that, too, didn't you? Hmm, I guess she wasn't happy at home, wasn't happy with life in general, wasn't happy with you." Alaric rushed at him again, and Marh followed suite. Damon grabbed the stake from Alaric's hands and quickly stabbed him with it as Mary managed to shove hers into the vampires back as Alaric screamed in pain. She cringed, realizing she had missed the heart by about an inch.
Damon had pushed Alaric to the floor before turning to the girl. He grabbed the stake from his back before grabbing her by the hair, the veins around his eyes going dark. "Shouldn't have done that," he said before shoving his fangs into her neck. It didn't last long, as soon as Damon's lips came into contact with the blonde's neck a hard shock bolted threw him. He yelled out again, and Mary felt the familiar surge course through her. Before she could process anything else, there was a sharp pain in her head, and then everything went black.
Mary felt like she had been passed out for days, but when she came to, Stefan and her fathers worried faces peering down at her, she realized it must not have been that long. She felt the hot and sticky feeling of blood covering her neck and reached up, crying out when she saw the bright red on her hands. Then she looked to her dad, who seemed to be perfectly fine after being stabbed in the chest. Mary sat up quickly and saw stars.
"Dad?" she exclaimed. "What- what-?"
Alaric shushed her and looked to Stefan, a pleading look in his eyes. Stefan sighed before biting into his wrist. He held it out to Mary carefully pushed it to her lips. She drank with wide eyes as she felt the wound on her neck heal. As soon as Stefan's arm was back at his side, she sat up more. "Can you guys explain to me what the hell happened?"
Alaric groaned quietly and nodded. "Um," he paused, "I think this ring brought me back." He lifted his hand up and the ugly ring Isobel had given him a few years prior gleamed. Mary frowned and looked at Stefan, asking for confirmation on her dads theory. Stefan nodded and sighed, glancing between the Saltzman's.
It had taken Stefan a bit to fully explain what happened to the blonde. Mary hadn't grasped the concept of a ring bringing her father back to life fully and it was beginning to frustrate the Salvatore. She had told him to stop explaining a few times, and didn't notice when her dad had left in the middle of their conversation.
When Mary had finally realized, she couldn't fault the man. He had died and come back to life, Mary wouldn't have wanted to wait around either. Mary sighed in annoyance, however, not wanting to walk home with a pounding headache. Stefan noticed her distain as she stood from her spot. "I can drive you home," he offered as he stood as well. Mary shook her head.
"It's fine. You don't really like me, I don't really like you, I'm not gonna put you through giving me a ride home," she stated. Stefan frowned at that, a heavy feeling of guilt flowing through him. Without another word, Mary turned and began walking out of the Boarding House.
Stefan reached out to grab her wrist but jolted back when the painful shock hit him for the second time. Mary felt it as well and turned, wide eyed to the Salvatore. "Okay, what the hell is that? It's happened, like, three times," she stated. Stefan shrugged, looking down between their hands.
"I'm not sure," Stefan stated earnestly. Mary groaned. "I'll help you figure it out, if you want."
The blonde shook her head. "I'll figure it out in my own." There was an awkward and heavy pause for a minute before Mary turned to leave again. She hated how awkward it always seemed to be between the two of them, though she supposed it was for the best. She didn't want to waste her time with vampires.
As the blonde walked down the dark street, a thought occured to her. She pulled the phone from earlier out of her pocket and found the one number that had been called multiple times. With a shaky breath, Mary pressed the call button. It rang a few times, before a familiar voice answered.
"Was there a problem? Did you find them? What's going on?" the woman asked. Mary had to take a moment to breathe after hearing her voice after so long.
"Isobel?" she asked. There was silence for a second before the woman hung up.
