It all started in ninth grade.

"My friends can't find out about you Ari, they think you're a loser, but I'll always love you no matter what, I'll always protect you. You're my little sister and I'll always be here for you, no matter what." Luke says as he drops me off a few streets away from the new school. It's year nine, I can start fresh in a new school, no older brother, no immature fart jokes in the hallways, it's a whole new year for a whole new me.

"Hey loser!" Somebody shouts from inside a car. "Catch!"

I feel myself being drenched in water from head to toe.

'I'll always be there for you Ari...' The voice rings through my head as I catch a glimpse of the dirty blonde curls. Of course. Ashton Irwin.

The first day goes awfully, Luke's friends steal my money, they trip me in the hallways, and then at the end of the day, they're all waiting by my locker.

"You thought it was over didn't you?" An tall, heavily muscled Asian looking one smirks, chomping on his gum. Calum Hood.

"Well we're not even close to done yet." Another one with dyed red hair says as he grabs me by the hair.

Ashton Irwin punches me square in the jaw, making my head whip back, and then he kicks me in the stomach, sending me onto the cold, hard tiled floors of the school. The other boys take turns kicking my back until Ashton tells them to stop.

"Finish it off Hemmings." He says to my own brother, smirking evilly.

"Can't we just leave it for today, we don't want to get in trouble with its parents." I look up at him with a tear rolling down my face, why are they referring to me as 'it'? I'm clearly a living person, as well as female. They should be referring to me as 'she' or 'her', not 'it'. I don't say a word as the three boys walk away, followed by my own brother, who looks back with a look of pure anguish on his face.

I grab my new, unused scissors from my school bag and run to the bathroom, sitting in a stall and making five cuts on my wrist, covering them up with some paper towels and my coat.

That was the first time I'd ever done that.

Fast forward to the first day of my last year of torture, year 12. I don't look much different than before, my hair is longer and it has ombre and highlights instead of the royal blue that I used to have in my dark blonde, almost brown locks.

I'm wearing a pair of black skinny jeans and a baby blue pullover sweater to cover my scars. I grab my black hollister coat and my white converse low tops as well as my school bag and wait for Luke to move his car, since his is in my car's way, and if I tried to leave is back right out onto his car and get grounded.

He runs downstairs and grabs his school bag, pulling on his vans.

"Need a ride?" He offers, looking at me.

"I can drive myself." I say, shaking my head. "Just move your car."

He nods and backs out of the driveway, making his way to school. The only thing good about my life is that I have a black matte range rover and I love it with all of my heart. I arrive at the school and park where I usually do, in the back parking lot where the teachers go. It's closer to my locker too.

Welcome back students! A sign reads above the entrance. Yeah, right, welcome back to hell.

The second I step in the door Ashton, Calum, Michael and my brother are waiting for me.

"Welcome back. We missed you." Michael says, smirking like the asshole he is. I pretend not to notice them as the bell rings and the students disperse to their classrooms. I have homeroom first, then music and science right after.

Somehow, I make it through the day with only my lunch money being stolen. I have a secret stash of cash in my locker anyway, along with a razor.

At the end of the day, as always, they're waiting by my locker for me.

"Thought we forgot about you eh?" Luke says in a monotonous voice, faking a smirk.

"No." I mumble. "You could never forget about me."

"Don't talk back." Calum says, slapping me across the face, hard.

I shut myself down as they beat me, including Luke, and the second they leave, I pull out my razors from my locker. I can't even wait to get to the bathroom, I have to feel the relief. Then, I drop all of my dozen or so razors on the ground, and I scramble to pick them up.

-Ashton's p.o.v-

I laugh as my boys and I walk away from the girl, mocking her cries of pain. Then, I hear a small crash and run back to see if she hurt herself so that I can get another laugh.

I look around the corner, along with Luke, while Cal and Mikey keep walking away, laughing and talking.

I look at the floor and scattered across it, are at lest twenty or so razor blades, which the girl, Aria I think, scrambles to pick up. She couldn't cut, we never hurt her so bad, we just leave a couple bruises. It couldn't be our fault.

"Do you think that's because of us?" I whisper to Luke, watching as the girl stuffs the bag of metal back into her locker.

"I think so." He says, stalking away. Neither of us laugh. We both know that we've driven a girl to self harm, and that's worse than being beat every day.

-Aria's p.o.v-

I place the cloth bag of razors back in my locker. Thank god nobody heard. Nobody can find out that I cut, they'd make fun of me even more, calling me emo and a loser. I don't know what to do anymore. I run to the bathroom and make just three light cuts on my arm, covering them up with my sweater.

Nobody can know

-Luke's p.o.v-

What have I done? I've driven my own sister to cut her wrists, that's what. How could I? I hate myself. Why do we hurt her? Why do we hurt anyone? Why?

I pull out my phone and text Aria as soon as I know it's safe.

-I need to talk to you whenever you get home. It's important.-

Edit: hey it's been almost 2 years since I wrote this fanfic but you all have a problem with the fact that I fescribed Calum as "Asian" based on his appearance. The words "tall, heavily muscled Asian kid" are a direct quote from the maze runner, as well as an old textpost that was popular when I was writing this. In no way do I condone the use of 'asian' to describe Calum, and for the last time, I know that he is kiwi. I don't need anybody to slide into my pms to tell me that I'm disgusting for using a 'racial slur'. 1. Asian is not a racial slur. It usually isn't used hatefully. For example, someone from Asia is Asian. Not racist. 2. I WROTE SOME OF THIS WHEN I WAS 12 IN A JOURNAL YOU ARE HARASSING A 12 YEAR-OLD. If you have any more issues with the way I wrote when I was a minor, then keep them to yourself. If you choose to continue or not, it's up to you. I'm sorry if I offended anybody, but I don't believe that my use of the word 'Asian' was offensive or rude.
