Jesse was close with his parents, but he was also a grown man and didn't let what his family thought of him really bother him that much. Because at the end of the day, it wasn't their lives, and he had stopped trying to impress them a long time ago. Demi on the other hand was very much different and he knew that, even if she refused to admit it. She adored her parents and wanted them to approve of everything she did. She wanted them involved in every aspect of her life for the times that they weren't, and although she swore that she didn't care that they weren't talking, Jesse knew that it was really bothering her. And since she was holding all of that in, she was kind of taking it out on him and he wasn't here for it. So, to fix all of that, Jesse had trudged out of bed on his day off and made his way to downtown Los Angeles to confront her parents, because if she wasn't going to do it, Jesse would.

Jesse had already told his parents of his plans. Divorce Aryn, marry Demi. That had been his plan for the past year and once Aryn stopped being difficult, he could make it happen. He refused to propose to Demi while Aryn was still dragging this whole divorce thing out. He wanted all of this mess to be over so that it wouldn't follow them into their new life that they had planned together. His parents didn't necessarily approve, but they agreed to be cordial and had assured him that they would get used to the idea eventually. Jesse just wasn't sure why it wasn't that easy for Demi's parents, but no. They had to call her out of her name and get her upset about the whole thing.

It was clear that Dianna and Eddie weren't expecting to see him. Eddie looked friendly enough as he opened the door and welcomed him inside, but Dianna had a hard look on her face. Jesse wished that he could say that he understood where she was coming from, but he really didn't. Demi had given him the whole run down, and as far as he was concerned, she did way too much for her family for any of them to be questioning her life choices. But Demi would never say that to their faces, so obviously he had to for her.

"Would you like anything to drink, Jesse?" Eddie offered, but Jesse shook his head as they all sat down at the dining room table. He really wasn't planning to stay long. He knew how to say what he needed to say so that there was no room for argument.

"Mr. and Mrs. de la Garza, I don't want this to be a long visit. I just came over here to tell you that I love your daughter, and she loves me. Obviously the way that we got together wasn't ideal, but I want to be with her for the rest of my life, and I'm planning to ask her to marry me very soon. With that being said, I know that Demi won't be fully happy until your relationship is repaired. I'm not trying to get into the middle of your business, but as I said I am in love with your daughter and I'm fully invested in her happiness. You guys caused this riff in your relationship and I find it appalling that neither of you have tried to reach out to her. Regardless of how you feel about me or our relationship, at the end of the day she's your daughter and she loves both of you very much, and I know she hates fighting with you. We're trying to create this new life together, and I know she would love if you guys could be involved," Jesse explained before standing up.

"We do love our daughter, Jesse," Eddie chimed in, but Dianna stayed silent.

"Then do the right thing," Jesse replied before leaving.

You ease my mind,

You make everything feel fine

"Demi...did you just double dip?" Jesse asked after watching Demi dip her blue corn tortilla chip into the bowl of queso fondido, bite into it, then dip her chip into it again. She was in the middle of chewing when he questioned her.

"Yeah...?"

"Oh my gosh, you just ruined the whole bowl," Jesse complained as Demi rolled her eyes.

"Are you kidding me?"

"No, I'm not. I'm going to have to order another bowl. I can't eat in these conditions. I don't know where your mouth has been," Jesse chuckled once he saw the offended look on her face.

"It was on your d-"

"Are you guys ready to order?" Their waitress approached them, effectively cutting off Demi's rebuttal. She stuck her tongue out at Jesse before looking down at the menu because she still hadn't figured out what she wanted.

"I'll have the enchilada suizas, she'll have vegetarian chile relleno with no zucchini, and we'll also have another order of your queso fondido," Jesse ordered as the waitress wrote everything down.

"And refills on the water?"

"Yes please," Demi answered as she closed her menu. The waitress took both of their menus before walking off, and Demi played with the wrapper of her straw as she released a deep breath.

"So, I got an interesting phone call today," Demi started.

"From who?"

"My parents...well, my dad. My mom was chiming in from the background," Demi replied as Jesse slowly nodded. A phone call? Seriously? They couldn't even go visit her?

"They apologized for everything. I wonder what inspired their change of heart," Demi hinted, but Jesse just shrugged.

"Maybe they realized that they were completely overreacting."

"Or maybe my boyfriend used his day off to go talk to them." Demi pulled her phone out and showed him their text thread. "You're always sharing your location with me. I had a break and I saw where you were. Why did you go talk to them? They should've apologized to me on their own, not because they got verbally accosted by my boyfriend."

"Accosted is a very strong word. Demi, it's been how long since they found out about us? And all that time they haven't apologized. I know it's been bothering you. That's not fair that you have to wait around for them to come to their senses," Jesse argued as Demi pushed her hair behind her ears. "Did you feel like their apology wasn't sincere?"

"No...it was. But even with their apology, I'm still really bothered by how they acted and what they said to me. And I don't know if I can forgive them so easily."

"Forgiveness doesn't happen on anyone's time but your own. So if it takes you a little while, you're completely justified. You know that, right? You weren't the one in the wrong, Demi."

"I know..."

"The real reason I went over there is because we're creating this life together, and I know that it wouldn't feel right to you if your parents weren't apart of it. Am I wrong or am I right?"

"You're right..."

"I know, I just wanted to hear you say it," Jesse grinned, which caused a smile to spread across her lips and brighten up her entire face. He reached across the table to grab her hand, playing with her fingers as she just happily sighed.
