I sat at the blue stool hidden behind the sofa. I kept a cautious glance at the clock, the clock ticked like my heartbeat, the seconds were flying into minutes and minutes into hours. My mother was more unconscious as her breathing changed from regular to turbulence.

I was perplexed and nervous. I was feared at the pinched look of her face. I was frightened and held her hand softly in condolence.

"Mom please please.. pleas...", I cried, "I am with you".

Her head tilted to the left and she began gasping.

"Mom please. Be strong. Don't loose hope. Whom shall I rely if you leave this world".

She panted her senseless breaths. Cassandra wept and held my mother's palm.

"Misty ma'am. Please Don't loose heart".

I dashed at the telephone and contacted the hospital again.

"Hello please be quick. This is emergency. Her condition is getting worse".

"Yes we are approaching as soon as possible", the person replied.

Two hours later, I heard the ambulance at the road. I darted and opened the door in haste. The blue vase tumbled from the tall table.

They jumped from the ambulance grasping stretcher at their hand.

"What took you so long?", I yelled at those unknown old men.

The two neighbours (Scots and Indians) approached at my porch. They were dazed and tried to connect with me. I avoided their sombre glance and hurried to take my ma to hospital.

I was panic strikken as her breathing was not rhythmic, she was breathing extremely high and low.

"Sir can you please accelerate",I said and cried like a puppy lost in a garden. I wept and kissed at her right hand. I wanted to cast magic with my kiss as in fairy tale in elementary books.

I cried so pathetically that the conductor asked, "Are you okay, lad?"

I hid my face and answered, "I a.... am ju-just panicked".

"Believe in God. She will heal".

I shook my head in agreement. The conductor accelerated and horned at the terrific traffic. Fortunately, the cars slow down for us and gave us our way.

I reached at the hospital. The nurse took her to private room.

"We are giving her glucose", the nurse said, "please pay the bill at counter no.3".

I paid the bill. I luckily brought thousand dollars with me.

The old doctor arrived and took out his stethoscope (which wrapped his neck like a snake) and examined her.

"Shelly, bring sphygmomanometre", he ordered the nurse.

"She has hypertension", the doctor said, "She collapsed because of stress".

I was relieved that she did not had any other serious condition.

She was shifted to general ward room number 80 . The nurse injected her hydralazine. She took a blood sample of her.

"These pills will calm her down. Give her them after she wakes up", she said and passed me the prescription slip.

I nodded and bought the medicines from counter number 4. I was utterly surprised to encounter Merry.

"You",she exclaimed, "why are you following me?"

"I am not following you. My mother is admitted at this hospital. Overconfidence makes any person drown".

She rolled her eyes and bought her capsules.

I dashed upstairs. I again met Merry as if it was a beautiful coincidence. She turned her head towards me.

"You are stalking me now".

I was silent. She broke my bottle filled with pills. My eyes were in rage. The anger which I suppressed within was surfacing.

"What's your problem, Merry?", I shouted, "You blame me for everything".

"I am I a-am sorry. I will pay the loss. Please forgive me".

I blocked her way and placed my both hands against the wall. She was trapped - trapped between my hands. Her fragile body tried to escape me but I blocked every possible ways.

"What are you doing. Are you trying....", she utterd, "Don't be stupid. This hospital is filled with CCTV cameras".

I caught her hands and whispered, "I don't care".
