Before we knew it, we were on the ground, engulfed in a cloud of smoke, surrounded by tree branches. I looked over towards Rocket who was clutching some of Groot's sticks.

"I called him an idiot..."

I put an arm around him, trying to comfort him while not breaking down myself. Turning my head, I saw Ronan emerge from the ship's wreckage.

"You killed Groot!"

I tried to stop Rocket from charging at him but he was too fast. He could fling to the side and hit against the wall. Without a second thought, I ran over to him, Drax coincidentally sitting by his side.

"Behold! You're Guardians of the Galaxy!"

Rocket spotted something he could make a weapon out of.

"What fruit have they wrought? Only that my father and his father shall finally know vengeance,"

I tried to get Gamora's attention, eventually getting it as she looked at me questionably.

"People of Xandar, the time has come to rejoice and renounce your paltry gods!"

While Rocket was making the weapon, o saw Gamora trying to get Peter's attention, them locking eyes and Pe te r understanding immediately.

"Your salvation is at hand,"

Just as he was about to look at Rocket, Drax and I, Peter stood up and started singing a song I didn't recognise. He was dancing, if you could even call it that, along to the song and I questioned his sanity. However, it was a distraction so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

"Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier. Ooh-oo child, things'll get brighter. Listen to these words. Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier. Ooh-oo child, things'll get brighter. Now bring it down hard! Some day, we'll get it together and we'll get it-"

"What are you doing?"

I reached over to my left to garb a part Rocket needed for the weapon.

"Dance-off, bro. Me and you. Gamora!"

He held out his hand for Gamora to take and dance with him but she shook her head, making me chuckle despite the situation we were in.

"What are you doing?!"

Rocket stood up, finally finished the weapon and pointed it at Ronan. I stopped him from shooting, however, because I knew Peter would wanna do one witty quip or something like that.

"I'm distracting you, you big turd blossom!"

Ronan turned around and I allowed Rocket to shoot his hammer which causes the infinity stone to fly through the air. Both Ronan and Peter reach for the stone.

"No!"

Peter grabbed the stone, engulfing us in a purple could of smoke. It tried to push us away from Peter but that didn't stop us. He was screaming in agony as Gamora took his hand, joining his screaming. I saw Drax make his way towards him and grab his shoulder. I pushed my way through the smoke, seeing Rocket grab Drax's finger. Joining them, I grabbed Rocket's hand, feeling the excruciating pain they were going through. The pain suddenly stopped and we glared at Ronan, who was in utter shock.

"You're mortal! How?"

"You said it yourself, bitch. We're the Guardians of the Galaxy,"

Peter held out his hand, a flash of light coming out of it and hitting Ronan, causing him to disintegrate. We let go of each other and I collapsed to the floor, the overwhelming power getting to me. I could see the others were trying not to do the same.

"Well, well, well. Quite the light show. Ain't this sweet. But you got some business to attend to before all the nookie-nookie starts,"

I look up to see a blurry Yondu, standing in-front of Peter, obviously wanting the orb.

"Peter, you can't. Peter,"

"You gotta reconsider this, Yondu. I don't know who you're selling this to, but the only way the universe can survive is if you give it to the Nova Corps,"

Without Yondu noticing, I saw Peter switching the orb with a fake one he must've made earlier. The sneaky bastard.

"I may be as pretty as an angel, but I sure as hell ain't one. Hand it over, son,"

He handed over the fake orb, while Yondu left without another word.

"He's gonna be so pissed when he realised you switched the orb,"

Peter chuckled and held out the real one, Gamora sighing in relief.

I stopped paying attention to their conversation, starting down at the stocks and leaves that used to be my friend. My eyes welled up with tears as I started to sob into my knees. I should've gone over to Rocket but I couldn't will myself to move over to him.

I felt a hand in my shoulder. I flinched and looked up to see Gamora, with a sympathetic look on her face. Without thinking, I threw my arms around her, crying into her shoulder. She was te die at first but eventually relaxed into the hug, even hugging me back at one point. Over her shoulder, I saw Drax, patting a devastated Rocket on the head. I smiled.

We really were a family, weren't we?
