A picture of Lenay is on the side :-) yeah pretty, i know lol

"Lenay? Lenay, wake up" I heard a distant voice waking me up from my slumber. I sat up in bed, blinking rapidly, allowing my eyes to adjust to the bright light shining from the ceiling. "Sorry for waking you, but I just had to know if your brother ate before he went to bed?" my mother asked in a soft tone of voice.

"Yes mom" I answered sleepily.

"And what about you? Did you have at least something to eat?" she asked concerned.

"Yes mom" I said, yawning loudly. I looked away from her, not wanting her to see that I am lying. You see, there was not enough food, so I dished for my brother, and left the rest to my mother and her boyfriend. As long as they have something to eat, then I'm okay. Don't worry about me.

"Okay" she smiled and got up, making her way to the door.

"Mom, yours and Daniel's food is in the oven" I said before she could leave.

"Thank you. Goodnight. Love you" she said gratefully and left the room.

"Love you too, Mom" I mumbled. Once the door closed, my stomach rumbled loudly, and I put my arms around it, to quiet it down. I lay back down, and felt a tear roll down my cheek as the hunger pains intensified. Mother would have scolded at me knowing that I had not eaten for the night, but if I did, they would have had nothing. I would rather sleep hungry, knowing that everyone else ate. Their needs are more important than my own. I wish that there was some way that I could help out my mother and her boyfriend. It hurts to see them struggle, and I cannot do anything about it. I suggested that I could do a part time job after school, but mother said no, telling me that she does not want me growing up to quickly, facing the responsibilities adults face. I don't see how that makes sense, because I am eighteen years of age, legally an adult, but mother does not want to hear it. So now I just wish for school to be over then I can help them without being stopped. I turned around, finding a comfortable position to lay in. As always, it is difficult to fall asleep on an empty stomach, but ifI forced myself to sleep, knowing that I have school tomorrow.

The alarm went off sooner than expected. I felt so tired, felt so drained of all energy. I wish I could sleep in, but I can't. Begrudgingly, I dragged myself to the bathroom to freshen up. Once I was done, I made my way to the kitchen where I found my mother and brother.

"Good morning Lenay" they said at the same time.

"Morning mom, morning Joshua" I said, and kissed both their cheeks.

"How did you sleep, sweetie?" mother asked, as I sat down next to my six years old brother.

"Okay, I guess. I'm still really tired" I said.

"You can have of my coffee" Joshua said, pushing his cup to me.

"Thanks but no thanks. I'll make my own" I said smiling at him. I wanted to get up to make me, but mother stopped me, saying that she will. "Did Daniel leave for work yet?" I asked mother.

"Yes, he left a half an hour ago" she said, placing a cup before me.

Mother looked at her wrist, checking the time. Her eyes widened, then hastily she got up and asked if we want a lift to school. I gulped down my coffee, and ran to my room to get my bag , and then met them in the car.
