THE LAST SIGN OF POMPEII

It was exactly 5:30 pm, 1944 when a disaster took place in Naples, Italy. The volcano 'Vesuvius' erupted and destroyed the city of Pompeii. Houses, roads, trees and forest were all damaged and demolished. The eruption forced people to abandon their land and homes. In a fraction of a second, the city became invisible without any people. The ash terrified the people that were trying to save their own life and their children's life.

The eruption was devastating! because most of the people were away from their homes. While Vesuvius claimed no Military fatalities during the 1944 eruption, 26 Italian civilians were killed and nearly 12,000 were displaced. Most died near Salerno, where heavy ashfall collapsed roofs. Falling volcanic rock killed three in Terzigno. Mount Vesuvius didn't kill EVERYBODY in Pompeii, that's because between 15,000 and 20,000 people lived in Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the majority of them survived the Vesuvius catastrophic eruption. In about 25 hours the city gets buried. None suspected that the black fertile earth was the legacy of earlier eruptions of Mount Vesuvius. When the volcano buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii under a thick carpet of volcanic ash.

Some of the people managed to get their stuff and get quickly out of the city. Unfortunately several of the people were trapped inside the city. There were many witnesses about the big Eruption of the volcano Vesuvius, for example, some people said that they heard 'loud explosions, bubbles bursting, rumbling, hissing, and roaring like a jet engine'. Describing some of the sounds heard from volcanoes around the world. Lots of other people said that 'they occur the types of sound recorded at both seafloor and land volcanoes when they occur. From a lovely city, it became the worst city they ever visited and lived.

The rescue workers tried to help people that were there by using helicopters and taking them somewhere else. They used water and sand to extinguish the lava that is the same thing as fire. In about 20 hours the Lava disappears. Some firefighters passed away by helping people. Mainly, they tried to help elderly people that were in a serious situation. The helicopters had a connection to other emergency helicopters, everything was communicated by Radio. They

heard the bubbles crawling down from the mountain like snakes. They sow the lava slitting and the ash flowing in the air. The ash was so thick that they barely saw anything. The people who remained there sadly had to die.

Pompeii is not safe!

In Europe, it is the only active volcano. This means that it can Explode the Lava at any time. Another reason why Pompeii cannot be visited anymore is because when the volcano erupts it produces ash. Inhalation of volcanic ash can be very detrimental to human health. Pompeii is considered a dangerous place to live because in 1944 when Vesuvius erupted and covered and preserved Pompeii with volcanic ash. Many Romans died, and the plaster casts of how their bodies looked when they died can still be seen today.

However, on the other hand, Pompeii was a good place to live. Pompeii was a desirable place to live for two main reasons. Firstly, the soil was very fertile, due to Mount Vesuvius, which was very close. Secondly, the location of Pompeii was close to the Bay of Naples, therefore, it provided the necessary transportation for traders. Pompeii was a very busy town with people bustling about, and it can be said that there were many amenities of life.

Pompeii is a beautiful city with deep historical and cultural importance, and it is a disgrace that it cannot be visited anymore. In my opinion, Now Pompeii will be closed to the public due to safety reasons. Probably archaeologists will try to find more about the city and discover hidden secrets waiting to be found.
