When Odin gives the throne of Asgard to Thor rather than Loki, Loki goes to take revenge on Thor, who is hiding out on Earth. Thor can't stop Loki on his own, he needs a team.

Scene 1
"Last season on Avengers: Assemble..."
A giant portal appears, and Loki falls through it. Loki laughs as he blows up cars and other objects around him with his scepter. Thor is shown fighting Loki and he is sent flying back into the window of Stark Tower, face to face with Tony Stark.
Thor: Nice to meet you.
Tony Stark: Activate defense protocol. And get the Iron Man suit ready.
Loki stands over Thor, and is suddenly slammed to the ground by a small ant. The ant grows into the size of a man.
Ant-Man: I'm Scott Lang, by the way. Ant-Man.
The scene changed to Tony, Thor, and Scott in Stark Tower.
Tony: A few months ago, one of my, uh, friends had this idea. He called it the Avengers Initiative...
The scene changes and Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, Captain America, and Hulk are standing around Loki, who is lying on the pavement.
Tony: ... A group of heroes that could save the world from danger, if needed.
Loki is shown on a bridge, walking toward Thor.
Loki: I control everything, and there's nothing that you or the rest of the Avengers can do to--
Loki stops talking and starts to choke as a sword protrudes from his chest. Loki falls and reveals that Iron Man and Captain America each have a hand on the sword.
Iron Man: You did it, Cap.
Captain America: No. We did it. We all did.
Avengers: Assemble intro plays.
Scene 2
9 months later...
The Avengers are around the long table in the middle of the control center. Tony and Steve are sitting at the heads of the table, with Natasha and Clint on one side and Hope and Scott on the other. Thor's seat is empty, as he is appearing virtually on a screen. Scott stands up.
Scott: Okay I know you all are busy, but I called this meeting because I found something wrong with the atomic levels of the earth. Or I didn't really actually find anything, but I sensed that something was off.
Tony: You called an Avengers meeting because of a strange feeling you got?
Scott: Look, I just think something's wrong. We should investigate.
