Well, hello there! Thanks for sticking with this story! It's cross posted on fanfiction.net and AO3, but I wanted to give Wattpad a shot. I really hope you're enjoying it so far! So, I'm still up in the air about Val's romantic interest. TBH, I was kind of leaning towards Damon in the beginning, but now I really like the idea of them as best friends in the future. However, I love to hear from my readers! Please cast your vote in the comments section!

Val breathed in the scent of her coffee, letting it wake her senses up just a tad as she walked into the school. Normally she didn't work there during the day, it was almost always after school practices, but with the season just starting there was a mountain of paperwork to be done. And despite Joe's go-get-it attitude, his eyesight wasn't what it used to be.
The bell had just rung, alerting the start of first period by the time she stepped through the door to her office. Joe had called her letting her know he'd be running pretty late, he lived a little ways out of town and there was a lot of traffic on the highway.
First period was just about over when actually gave the try out schedule a once-over. Cursing, she stood up angrily and headed for the door, try out/practice schedule clutched in her hand. Marching down the hall, she took a deep breath to calm down before knocking several times and opening the door to see William Tanner standing in front of his class.
"Excuse me, Mr. Tanner, I didn't know you still had a class going." Val said, forcing politeness into her tone. Tanner simply gave her a lecherous smile.
"Why, Valentina, what a surprise! What can I do for you?"
Val nearly bristled at the way he addressed her by her first name, as if they were friends, but suppressed it, and slapped a fake smile on.
"Whenever your class is done, I need a moment to speak with you."
It only took a few minutes for the bell to dismiss the class, and Val greeted several of the students as they exited the class from her spot just outside the door. Elena passed by and gave the teacher a much more cheerful smile, and Val noticed why immediately when a rather handsome young man walked out behind her. Val raised her eyebrows teasingly at the eldest Gilbert, and Elena blushed, ducking her head and hurrying away with her newest friend. Chuckling, Val shook her head before stealing her shoulders and slipping into the classroom.
"Mr. Tanner-" She began, but he interrupted.
"Please, Valentina, I've already insisted that you call me Will." He said smoothly, walking over to her. Val made no attempts to be discreet as she stepped back, putting a much larger space between them as she responded.
"No, I feel much more comfortable calling you 'Mr. Tanner', it feels more professional. And I believe I've already insisted that you do not call me by my first name." Despite the hardness of her voice, Tanner merely scoffed, waving a hand as he smiled.
Not giving him a chance to speak again, Val held up the schedule. "You have your football tryouts scheduled the same Tuesday we have soccer tryouts. You know we need the whole field, it's not a practice; there will be a lot more girls than just the regular team."
Tanner only shrugged, putting his hands in his pockets, "Well, football is the main sport here at the high school. I've already discussed it with Principal Manning, he said it was fine."
"And did either of you discuss it with Joe?"
Tanner looked down at her, a sardonic smile on his face, "Well, you and I are discussing it, aren't we? Although, I see your point." He turned back to his desk, shuffling through some papers, "Sports is more of a men's topic, isn't it?"
