Brian:
"Mom, I don't wanna go to school anymore."
My mother looked at me from across the mahogany dinner table, looking unimpressed. "You don't? Now?" Her face would've been hilarious if I wasn't serious.
"Yes, Mom. For the first time, I am friendless. What's the point of going back there if I can't socialize." I wanted her to focus less on my words, and more on the last of the cuteness I can muster up from my face. I tried to pout, but I just ended up looking weird.
"What about Jonathan and Mira? You guys are like Alvin and the Chipmunks." She said, confused.
I forgot that I hadn't told her yet. "Yeah, if Simon and Theodore became a couple and left Alvin all by himself."
She kind of bared her teeth a little. "Geez, I'm sorry. I didn't know it was like that. Are you a third wheel now?"
"Actually, to prevent that from happening, they let go of me, like it was a job and I was fired. Who does that?" I was getting kind of mad at them all over again. But I didn't want to talk about my ex-friends anymore. "Why do we eat bad food for dinner? Do you not season it?" That earned me a hit to the head.
"If you have a problem with how I cook, do it yourself, or better yet, get your dad's food. His is probably so much better. Be grateful. Not everyone gets to eat three meals a day. And I know it is seasoned. It tastes so good to me.
"Maybe your taste buds are fried from years of your bad food." That earned me another hit on the head.
"Just go wash dishes." Mom rolled her eyes.
"Whatever. You know I'm right."
Just then, the door opened, and my dad came in.
"Hey guys!" He says. "I just came back from the bakery. I got you something, honey!" Why, what is the special occasion?
Mom knows what he is talking about though; "Oh, thank you! I didn't know if you remembered. Brian really didn't." They both laughed at that.
I am still confused. " What are you talking about? Is today like a special occasion or something?"
Dad rolled his eyes. "Do you ever pay attention to anyone but yourself? Yes, today is your mother's 6 month birthday."
What? When did this start.
"Where's mine? Mine came and left 15 times and you didn't do this until now." I was not going to let this happen without me getting in on it.
"Okay, okay. I just got this for your mom. Just to say I love you!" He made a face. "That was so unnatural."
"And cringe!" I added.
"Speaking of that. Did you know Jonathan and Mira are dating? And Brian is mad that he is the third wheel. I think it's because he likes Mira and he's mad." She and my dad nodded their heads at each other. "I believe that as well."
Not even close. At that moment, the reason why my mom was even home in the first place woke up. I knew, because she was so loud.
"Oh, I will get the baby. You sit back and relax. You worked a lot today." Dad stopped Mom from getting out of her chair.
"No, don't you have that big project to do. I can do it, go work on it."
Now they were both smiling at each other. This makes me very uncomfortable. They were not always like this, keep in mind. But ever since Leslie was born, they have been getting closer.
