We made our way down the hall to the cherry wooden steps. Listening to our feet creak I started to think about how I'm going to miss this home. The big bay windows, the little rose garden Krystal and I worked so hard on out back. The perfect white roof to lay on and watch the shooting stars. I would always climb out of the balcony in my room and go sit out there for hours. It would drive my mom nuts worrying I would fall. It seemed like Noah could sense I was starting to get down as he gently squeezed my arm and smiled. I look down to where his hand was and closed my eyes absorbing the electrical pulses going through my body. It's something I knew I could quickly get addicted to. That very handsome smile would be on that list as well. I look back up at him and smile trying to reassure him I'm okay. "Let's make today fun, I don't want to think about the fact I'm leaving my home and family." He looked away and brought his hand down. I instantly craved his touch and wanted reach out, trying to not look desperate I continued walking. "I hope in time Ella that you'll grow to love our new home and we can make a family together." So he wanted children?
As we made it to his black Mercedes he jumped in front of me and opened my door. "Thank you, you don't have to do that." As I started to turn red and climb into the car. "Of course I do, I'm going to make sure my wife knows that I care." He said getting into the other side. As we start to drive into town he looks over "is there somewhere in particular you'd enjoy to eat at?" My stomach instantly started growling and he looked over with a small smile "maybe somewhere close?" I looked down cursing my stomach "ha, yeah! There's this little mom and pop place called Sophie's pizza, they have some of the best bread sticks!" He looked over and put his hand on my thigh. Before I could fully react he said "then Sophie's pizza it is. I could always go for breadsticks and pizza, no better way to a mans heart!" He looked at me with a toothy grin. "Are you saying to win over your heart I better start practicing my cooking?" I smiled back still trying to not fully focus on the fact he was touching me. I reach down and put my hand over his as an attempt to seem cool and collected. He whipped his head so fast and looked at my hand. I decided to look out the window as we started to deeper into town and watching as we pass the beach houses. Smiling because I can see I have an effect on him just like he does me.
Soon enough we pull up to Sophie's pizza and I climb out of the car feeling confident in myself for not loosing it while holding his hand. Sophie's pizza was a cute little bright pink dinner that had a flamingo holding a pizza outside the front door. There were twinkly lights outside by some picnic tables and I decided I wanted to sit there so we could see the stars. Noah walks around the car seeming happy as ever as he looks down at me. "Okay, Love lets go grab some menus and get you fed." He walks up to the glass door and holds it open for me. Sarah the waitress with red hair that's always tied in a bun walks over. I've been here what feels like a million times so I would consider myself a regular. "Oh Ella! So nice to see you tonight and I see you brought a friend." I go to grab two menus " uhh yeah, this is Noah." Not sure what to call him yet. I suppose he is my fiancé but this whole thing is just to weird to explain. Sarah was human so she didn't fully understand all the details that went into vampires. Humans know that supernaturals exist and many years ago tried to wipe us out. To their failure we were simply able to overrun them. Now we coexist and for the most part supernaturals leave humans alone. Vampires have humans who willingly give themselves for us to feed. They get a high when we feed from them so most of the time our regulars become addicts. That's how the few who live in our homes are. They are treated well with food and nice living arrangements but in reality they are just junkies for us to feed off of.
Noah steps in front of me and looks down. He smiles while looking at me "actually I'm not her friend, I'm her husband." He says shaking her hand. Sarah looks at me with wide eyes "husband?! You didn't even tell me you're engaged! And I must say good job girl he's a looker." She says winking at me. I tried to muster up a normal voice "Ha yeah, he is thank you." Noah smiled at me and asked for a table outside. It's like he knows what I want before I ever have to say it, does that have something to do with this whole soulmates thing?
As we sat down she brought me my regular root beer with light ice and a water that Noah had asked for. I grabbed the menu pretending to look it over when in reality I knew this menu like the back of my hand. Noah grabs my menu and gently pulls it down looking me in the eyes. " so you think I'm a looker huh?" He said with mischief in his eyes. Of course he would bring this up. I roll my eyes "Yes, I think you're good looking. I guess that's not a bad thing considering you're going to be my husband." I tried to say matter of factly. He smirked "well if it's anything to you I think you're the most beautiful creature I've ever seen. I'm unsure on how to stop looking at you." I immediately feel the butterflies in my stomach and try not to pass out from the excitement of hearing his words. "Thank you" I mumble trying not to let him see my reddening cheeks.
Sarah walks over with a basket of bread sticks and a medium pepperoni pizza. I grab a slice and dig in, I wasn't afraid to eat in front of him. I was starving and maybe having food in my stomach would help control these annoying butterflies. He grabs a slice and two breadsticks and starts to eat slowly, as if he was trying to savor the flavor. "It's good huh? My mom grew up with the cook Daniel who works here and he's great. That's why we used to come here all the time before she got to busy with work. This place kind of just brings up those simpler memories." I say rambling on trying to avoid any awkwardness. He looks up from his food "it's delicious, we will have to have a pizza to go when we start our travels home." Oh right, I'll be leaving this too.
Trying to get my mind off of the negative "so tell me exactly why we are supposedly soulmates?" He smiles beaming at the topic. "That electric feel you get indicates we are destined for each other."
"How so? I've never heard of vampires having soulmates. Isn't that more of a werewolf thing?" He looks at like he's trying to word what he wants to say correctly. "I can't tell you why we are soulmates but that we just are. You'll come to see it yourself." I put down my half eaten piece of bread stick and look at the twinkle light swaying with the wind. I try to comprehend what he's saying. "So why can't you tell me? Already keeping secrets from your wife?" I try to joke to lighten the mood. However I think it did the opposite as he just stared at his empty plate. Before he could say anything else Sarah walks back over and asks if we need anything else. "Just the check, Sarah thank you!" I say while pulling out my wallet. He reaches for my hand "no, don't worry I have this." I quickly give his hand a squeeze. "Thank you." His mood immediately changed as it does every time we touch. "Anything for my wife" he says with a wide grin.
I get up from the table and walk around to him. His eyes never leaving mine, I reach out my hand. "Shall I introduce you to the water? It'll be perfect since it's low tide." He stands and instantly grabs my hand interlocking our fingers. I've never felt more at home than I do in this mans embrace. "Lead the way" he says with a toothy grin and excitement in his eyes.
