I looked around, taking it all in. It was beautiful. If I had lived somewhere else, it couldn't compare to here. It was so small yet so cute.
Emma showed me around town. She was just describing why the library was boarded up when a boy around ten ran up to us.
"Hey, Emma!" he said.
"Henry," Emma said. "What are you doing here? You're supposed to be at school!"
Henry had brown hair, brown eyes and an adorable little face.
"I wanted you to drop me off," he turned to me. "Emma's the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming."
"Um," I said, "That's nice, I think. I'm Destiny. Well, that's my new name."
"I'm Henry. Emma broke the last curse that the Evil Queen put on all the fairytale characters. She was sent through a magical closet! Then after she broke the curse, another one was put on here. It's the same as before, except even Emma lost her memories." Henry rambled.
"Henry, that's enough," Emma said sternly. "Let's get you to school."
I stood there, shaking my head and smiling. I headed towards Granny's, the café, and inhaled the smell of coffee, chocolate, and tons of other amazing stuff. I sat down at a table and stared out the window.
"Hey, you ordering?" a girls voice asked.
I looked up and the girl with the red lipstick was at my side. She was wearing a red crop-top and a pair of red short shorts. Her red-brown hair was pulled into two pigtails with several streaks of red.
"No, I'm good. Just a glass of iced tea, please," I smiled.
"Gotcha," she nodded. "I'm Ruby."
"Destiny." I said.
Ruby turned around and went into the back. I stared down at my hands. There was a rose-gold ring on my finger. The gem was pink surrounded by diamonds. I ran my thumb across it.
Ruby came back after a few minutes and placed a glass gingerly on the table. The glass was filled to the brim with ice and an amber liquid. She sat across from me.
"You new to Storybrooke?" she asked.
"Yup," I said, taking a sip. "I woke up along the side of the road, just past the sign, with no memories, whatsoever. So, that's when Emma comes in, takes me here, and gives me a new name."
"Cool," she says.
"Ruby! Get back to work!" a voice shouted.
"Okay!" she shouted back. "Nice ring."
I watched her go from table to table, asking people what they wanted. I continued staring out the window, thinking.
My thoughts were interrupted by a boy who asked, "Mind if I sit here?"
"No," I said. "Go ahead."
He was around my age. Fifteen, sixteen? Okay, that was weird--I didn't even know my own age.
"I'm Jason," he said. "What's your name?"
"Destiny," I smiled.
Jason was looking at me as if he knew me. I looked down at my glass and sighed.
"You look familiar," he said after a while of silence. "Have we met before?"
"I dunno." I shrugged.
Silence. I do admit that he did look familiar. His green eyes stared into my grey ones as if still trying to figure out if we had met before. The more I thought about it, the more that sharp pain in my head hurt.
"So, how did you find Storybrooke?"
"I woke up past the sign, no memories at all. Emma took me here."
"Oh," he said. "So, no memories at all?"
"Nope," I said.
He frowned. After a few minutes of silence, I finished my drink and got up. I groaned when I realized my jean pockets were empty.
"What's wrong?" Jason asked.
"I'm broke," I shrugged. "Can't pay."
"I gotcha covered," Jason smirked.
"No, it's fine. I swear."
"I insist."
"Oh, fine!" I said.
I watched as he placed a twenty dollar bill on the table and got up. I started walking towards Ruby.
"Sorry to bother you, but do you know if there is anywhere I can stay?" I asked.
"My granny has an inn," she said. "You can stay there."
"Thanks." I smiled.
Ruby lead me to the inn and handed me a key. I took it and smiled.
As soon as the key turned, I heard a loud click, as if a clock had just started moving. I walked in and looked out the window. The clock now read 7:55.
