"C'mon baby walk faster", my mother said to me as we walked in the pouring rain, it was late and the end of May so it was that good cool rain. "Wey we goin ma?", I questioned her for the thousandth time because she wouldn't give me a straight answer." To take care of some business sweety.", she seemed very nervous but I didn't really think much of it. She still wouldn't tell me where we were going until we came to a familiar street 9 mile. "Mommy this the street daddy lives on!", I said excitedly, jumping up and down.

She didn't respond to what I said, she just looked down at me and flashed a fake grin. We finally came to my dad's house I quickly hopped up the broke down brick steps that led to the concrete porch. I turned around to see my mother at the bottom of the stairs in the rain with the same nervous look on her face. "Ma wats wrong?" She suddenly snapped out of her daze, "Oh! Nothing baby, knock on the door." She told me as she walked up the steps but still stayed kinda far behind me. I pulled the screen open first, and then knocked on the big hard door. It used to be red but now it was old and peeling, where the original brown wood color was showing. A few seconds later the door opened.

It was John my daddy's Brother. He picked me up and gave me a hug. Uncle John didn't talk much, unless it was about bussiness or money; well at least that's what my daddy told me. He put me down and gave my mother a hug also, she told me to go find my dad while her and Uncle John talked. I walked away towards the back where my daddy's room was, and he wasn't there. I sat on the bed and turned on Blue's Clues, I swear I was in love with that show. My mommy walked in the room after it went off and I was falling asleep but fighting it because I wanted to see my dad, but I couldn't stop it and dozed off.

"Noleigha, (No- lay- ah) I swear...." I heard a distant conversation but couldn't make out the voices or what was being said. I was finally waking up from my nap, and I was starving. I don't think I ate for at least a day and a half, we ran out of food at my mom's house and she didn't have the money to buy more. I turned over on the bare mattress that layed on the floor and look out the screen window still listening to the conversation going on in the other room. "Randy why do you have to do this right now yo. Stop thinking about yourself and think about your child in there!", I heard my mother yell out. " Don't raise yo fucking voice. You know she sleeping!",My father retorted at her. "Listen it's best Quila (key-la) lives with me Randy, you know you aren't fit to take care of her. What's gone happen when you run out of your meds and she's the only one here for you to beat on?"

"Well what the fuck is going to happen when the first crack dealer comes round and offer you a rock, but you broke like you are now? Are you gone sell your 8 year old daughter for crack again Noleigha, HUH?!"

"Look i dont have time I've made my decision already she's living with me and that's that!! End of conversation!!"

I heard footsteps come towards the room and I pretended like I was sleeping so they wouldn't know I heard what they were talking about. The closet door opened and I heard clothes being taken out. "What the Fuck do you think you're doing Noleigha?", my dad said calm as hell. My mother didn't answer him, she just kept getting clothes. "Baby I freaking love you, why won't you just move back in so we can be a big happy family again." My mother still didn't answer him.

Next thing I know I was in pain and screaming at the top of lungs. My father had punched my mother and she landed on top of me. My momma isnt big but she isn't small either but she damn sho was heavy. I finally opened my eyes when she got up. And that's when I saw something I didn't even think would happen. My mother and father were fighting each like their lives depended on it. I got up and tried to intervene but it was like I was invisible. "STOPP!! STOOOP!! PLEASE STOPP!" I screamed over and over again but it didn't work. My dad finally grabbed my mommy by both her wrist and began to drag her out of the house. I watched at first as he over powered her and all she could do is kick and scream. I grabbed on to her legs to stop him but my dad just shot me a death glare. And I just squatted down and cried feeling helplessness.

When they got outside he pushed her off the porch causing her to fall in a mud puddle. She got back up and ran towards me with her hand reached out but he would just keep pushing and kicking her down. "PLEASE!! JUST LET ME KEEP MY BABY!!! PLEASE!!", My mommy screamed at the top of her lungs as she sat on her knees begging but it didn't change a thing. I couldn't take it anymore and ran down to her with my arms stretched out. But right before our fingers could touch my daddy picked me up by my shirt like you do to new born puppies and threw me over his shoulder. He turned his back to walk away, "Leave Noleigha, and don't ever come back", after he said that he walked into the house and closed the door.

That was the last time I seen my mommy.
