The Purple Rose

The coolest part about Alex and I being engaged is that to us, we're married. We don't need papers from the court saying we are, we didn't need any fancy rings that were made out of pure diamond, and we both didn't need some big wedding bash to show we were married.

Alex curled up against me more and pulled up the blanket past his shoulders.

"Why is it so cold all the time?" Alex asked he rolled over on his back and groaned.

I rolled over on top of him in a straddle position.

"I can warm you up." I said suggestively.

Alex finally picked up my hint and began to blush a dark shade of red. I smiled at the blush that painted over his cheeks and pushed my lips to his. Alex softly kissed back and put one of his hands in my messy hair and the other behind my neck.

I had mine on either side of his head and was balancing myself over him so we could simply kiss.

It's funny how some couples' butterflies go away after the third or fourth kiss. I still felt the butterflies creeping up my throat and fluttering around my heart. I'm sure Alex felt them too; he still blushes after every kiss, and shyly leans up to give me another kiss.

I gently glided my my tongue across his bottom lip and felt Alex pull me down on top of him to close the space between us. He didn't open his mouth but did wrap his legs around my waist.

I gently slipped my hands in his shirt and ran my fingers across his hips. Alex let out a small whining sound and I slipped my tongue in his mouth.

We both deepened the kiss by moving our mouths around and gently brushing tongues every so often.

We both pulled back at around the same time and smiled at each other. I felt the small blush coming along and saw Alex's dark blush begin to fade a little.

I let out a soft chuckle and pulled back from him to roll over. Alex got out of the warmth of the bed and grabbed my hand, gently giving it a tug.

Leaving the warm galaxy, I followed Alex. It was pretty early, and the sun was just starting to rise. I've never seen Alex out of bed this early, but maybe the cold woke him up a bit.

When we got to our back door, Alex grinned and grabbed my hand again. We both walked outside along our path in socks and avoided the puddles. We finally reached the rose bushes that were facing east, the way of the rising sun.

The sky was a darker blue towards the west that slowly layered out into a bright baby blue like our kitchen walls. After that came the brilliant purples and soft violate colours. The pinks mixed with the oranges were next. Somehow, they managed to mix together and form the most brilliant wave of colour. The yellow cascaded around the rising sun and lit up the sky.

The sunrise to me was better than the sunset. At sunrise, it brings energy among those who are awake; by the bright colours and call of morning, it made people feel like they wanted to get out of bed and go for a walk, or read a book. For others, it was a sign to go back to bed.

I looked over at Alex and saw he was plucking a rose out of the bush. We got double the roses from the fertilizer I put in the soil. When I went to go grasp the rose, I saw the thorns were cut off and the roses radiant red colour was a rather bright purple.

Alex smiled at me and I pulled him into my chest. He wrapped his arms around my waist and gently nuzzled me with his bed head.

"We needed the last rose to complete a rainbow." Alex said.

"You know, I was wondering why you got out of bed at four." I laughed.

Alex giggled and pulled away, still leaning his head on my chest. I still had my arm around his shoulder and was rubbing soft circles with my thumb.
