Adam realises it's me; he is just as surprised as I am. I fight all my urges to cry; it feels like just yesterday when I met him, I took a chocolate almond from the shop he was working in. He threatened to call the police on me and then proceeded to write his number on my hand. He's walking towards me and I feel an immense amount of nervousness and butterflies. "Hannah, it's you." I nervously get up and stand in front of him, he is dressed in a plain blue t-shirt with matching blue denim jeans and trainers. He still looks like the same handsome guy I used to be head over heels for. "It's you, how are you doing? It's been a long time." He bites his lip and replies, "Ten years, how's your son?" I show him my screensaver, he smiles, "He's a cute kid Hannah, he could have been mine if you'd given me the chance." Those old feelings of regret come back up in my heart again, "Maybe, what are you doing here?" I ask him. He points towards the door, "I was meant to be the lead in this production, but at the last minute they got another big time actor in my place. Now I am the co-star who only has five scenes. It's a joke, isn't it?" I can't help but agree, "It is, you look like you need a drink. Do you want to grab a coffee?" He immediately agrees, "Yes! Come on kid, let's go."

An hour later and we are in a small cafe only a ten-minute walk from the theatre, we are deep in conversation and it feels like no time has passed between us at all. Adam is now married to one of his exes Natalia, he has had three kids with her and seems really happy. I can't help but feel a tad jealous. He found someone to spend the rest of his life with and there's me, a single mom who is pregnant again and doesn't even have a proper place to live. "So, what's going on with you kid?" He asks me, so I tell him. "I've been kicked out of my home and I'm now living with your theatre director." He laughs, "Barber?! Why are you living with that dickhead for?" Charlie is anything but a dickhead, I think to myself, "I'm living with him because he is the father of my child, Adam."

He chokes on his coffee and wipes his mouth with a napkin. "You're pregnant with Charlie Barber's kid?! Is this a joke, how did that happen?" I tell Adam what happened with my sperm bank appointment, how me and Charlie bumped into each other on the street and went back to his apartment. "That would only happen to you, Hannah! You should have come looking for me, I would have been your sperm donor." He gives me a cheeky wink, "You're married Adam!" He holds up his hands, "Calm down. It was just a joke. You need to be careful with that Barber guy though, I've heard that he's very controlling, especially with his ex wife." I don't believe him, "More like the ex wife is! You should've heard their conversations on the phone. Sounds like she tries to keep the kid away from him as much as possible." He just shrugs and starts to giggle, "Now, I'm never going to be able to look Barber in the eye without thinking of him going down on you." Slightly horrified yet really amused by his comment I reply,"FYI, he didn't go down on me." Another snort of laughter, "That dude must be a closet gay!" I have to step in, "There is no way Charlie is gay, he's got the biggest cock I've ever had in my life." I say with a slight glimmer in my eye. Adam just shrugs, "I don't know, all I know is..hang on." Mr Brightside starts playing on the radio, by The Killers, it's one of my favourite songs of all time. We both start singing, "It started out with a kiss. How did it end up like this? It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss." I laugh, it's so nice being here with him. He suddenly asks me, "Why did you say no?" I don't know how to respond to him without feeling the same emotions I felt all those years ago. "I didn't say no, I didn't say anything. It was best for me to leave the past behind and give Grover the best life I could. He was and still is my main priority." He shakes his head, "It will never really be over between us, we will always be unfinished business." My phone suddenly beeps, distracting me from this uncomfortable conversation. I see a notification from Charlie, "Where the hell are you?!" Flustered, I throw my jacket on over my shoulders, "I'd better get going, Charlie is wondering where I am." Adam laughs again, "See, what did I tell you. Controlling." I roll my eyes at him, "Are you coming?" He takes my hand and lifts himself up out of his chair, "Of course."
