Kanna felt the rain splash against her skin.

She was cold, wet, and utterly miserable as the howling winds tossed her fiery hair that shone like polished copper to and fro. The convoy cart of the Lokheim soldiers rocked as it tread along the rocky path and as a group of abyss soldiers passed, she shrunk back into a corner and prayed they wouldn't notice her. She was tired of their insults and insolent remarks, their leers and lampooning. A few even tried to reach out and touch her in areas with their dirty, rough hands. Their disgusting behaviour meant nothing to her-at least that's what she told herself-but each time the demons made a gesture toward her, it made her that much more uncomfortable.

Being a young and rather famed knight of the Veda, her head had quite the bounty on it from a Lokheim perspective. Her armour felt more like a heavy burden than protection now, the bits of metal plate felt restrictive and heavy as she sat in the cart. Her breastplate tight and clammy against her chest, her gauntlets felt sluggish against her forearms and the added weight from the fetters that were scuffing her wrists certainly didn't help. She had been carted along with the infantry convoy for an hour and she tried everything she knew to escape. From wiggling the chains to studying the lock for any structural weakness that she could exploit. Anything. She was desperate and tears forced their way into her eyes but she forbade them to fall. For one, she wanted to show no fear and weakness to her enemies, and for another, she didn't know if she could stop once she started to cry.

Kanna's head lulled back from exhaustion, both physically and mentally. She beat herself over the fact that her reckless decisions had led to her capture; damn those Lokheim troops using such perfidious tactics, choosing ambush over a direct confrontation. She had to give it to them though. They had won this battle and now, she was at their mercy.

"Ya gonna fall asleep on us, Veda scum?" the soldier who was walking alongside her cart spat. His ugly, scarred face twisting into a scowl. Kanna knew this man was of higher rank within the Lokheim forces judging from his more sophisticated armour and general demeanour that oozed a level of authority.

Kanna said nothing as she ignored him and looked up to the dimming sky, the brightest stars had begun to show themselves against the backdrop of deep maroon.
The Lokheim sky had such a strange colour. Kanna noted absentmindedly as the cart rocked on.

The convoy gradually slowed to a halt and Scarface grabbed Kanna by the arm to forcefully yank her off the cart. Kanna crashed against the ground and grunted. Even in her dazed state, she could make out rows upon rows of battle tents. She had been taken to a military encampment.

"Not so high'n'mighty now, are ya, Veda scum?" his words were heavy, dry, and rough. It reminded Kanna of jagged rocks or coarse sand.

"I don't answer to the likes of you." Kanna finally replied in a hushed whisper as she tried to sound as courageous as she could despite being terrified of what was going to happen.

Scarface's thin lips curled back in a snarl. "Maybe I should cut ya tongue out, teach ya to not let that fuckin' mouth of yours blabber." Scarface proceeded to draw a dagger from his belt.

Kanna eyed it warily and scooted back but was grabbed roughly by Scarface, his calloused fingers digging into her jaw.

"Sergeant put the knife away. A prisoner of her calibre is not yours to handle." A deep voice said calmly. "They are mine."

Kanna turned her head to take in whoever had said it. A cascade of silver hair tumbled down the man's back, his dark and matte armour covering his whole body-outside of his face-in a seemingly impenetrable shield. While Scarface had an air of authority to him, this man didn't even need to look in the general direction of a group to silence them. His face was pale and clean-shaven with little emotion behind his eyes. Those glowing, crimson eyes.
