Chapter 1-
Sadie's POV-
All summer I have gotten to sleep in. Only on the days that I don't have to work in the morning. It's August 18th a week before school starts and I'm getting up at 7:30 AM for tennis practice.
Why we have it at 9:00 in the morning, I couldn't tell ya! Anyway, I get up and go downstairs. I smell pancakes. My twin brother, Anderson makes the best pancakes. I walk through the living room and into the kitchen.
I sit at the bar and he slides me a plate with 3 pancakes that have butter on them and a fork. Just the way I like them! I eat my pancakes and have a conversation with Anderson, about our little sister, Kate. This year will be the first year that she's started school without my parents being here.
My mom and dad were killed in a car accident last year at the end of the school year by a drunk driver. When I got the call I was so mad, I locked myself in my room for weeks and didn't come out. Kate was really close with my dad and she was close with my mom.
We finished our conversation about my sister and then I went upstairs into my bathroom. I brushed my hair and put it up in a ponytail, I brushed my teeth, put my headband in, and put my pearl earrings in. I walked out of my bathroom and walked over to my closet.
I pulled open the doors and got my black NIKE shorts and one of my Clemson t-shirts, I got my tennis shoes, socks, underwear, and my sports bra. I walked out and got dressed. It was 8:30, by the time I was done getting ready.
I grabbed my Vera Bradley tennis bag,my keys, and my paperwork(physical) and went downstairs. It takes 20 minutes to get to school from my house, so I had to leave now to be on time. I ran in the kitchen, grabbed my CamelBak and filled it with water, said bye to my brother and got in my Equinox LTZ and left the house.
I got to the courts right at 9:00. I saw everyone already there. Figures, I'm late. I get on the courts and say hey to everybody and then the gate opened and a tan, tall, muscular, and good-looking guy walked over to us.
"Hello Ladies, I am your new coach. My name is Blake Miller. You can call me Coach Blake, Coach Miller, Blake, B-Dog, or anything you'd like. Just be respectful, please." He said. Our eyes met after he got done talking and we kept our eyes locked on each other. Maggie, another senior asked, "Coach Blake, how old are you?"
Everyone started laughing, because he looked very young.
"22, I just graduated from the University of South Carolina in May." He said. " I want you girls to get in a circle and I want you to say your name, grade, age, and something about yourself." We got in a circle and we went around, and then it got to me.
"My name is Sadie, I am a senior, I just turned 18, and I have family in Italy." I said. "Where in Italy?" He asked. "Sicily." I said. "I have family there as well." He said back to me. I just looked at him and smiled.
After everybody had gone around in the circle and said something, he seperated us in to grades. There were 4 seniors, so we played a doubles match. Maggie and I were on the same team and we were playing Alexa and Ellie, who were also seniors.
When we were playing, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me. We got done playing our match. The score was 8-6. Maggie and I won. We walked over to the fence where all of our stuff was and we sat down on the bench. Coach Blake was walking around helping the other girls.
After everyone got done playing, we went to the track. "Girls we are going to run 4 laps." He said. All of us started complaining about it. I had no problem with it. I loved running, it helped me get away from everything and let me think. Running & Columbo's Pizza were my two favorite things to do with my dad. My mom thought it was because when Anderson and I were about 2 years old, we had so much energy and were always running and crawling all over the house.
That was when my parents started me and my brother in soccer. I have played soccer ever since. My dad was my coach and he was the best one, but since he's not going to be there this year for soccer I don't know if I'll play. Soccer was our sport, we would go out and play for hours.
When I got done thinking about my dad, I was already on my third lap. Coach Blake was catching up to me and then he was running beside me. "You're a fast runner." He said. " Yeah, I like to run and I play soccer." I said. "What are you thinking about?" "What?" I said. "I can tell you where thinking about something." He said back.
"I was thinking about the old times with my dad and when we would go out and play soccer for hours in the yard and my mom would have to come get us for dinner." I told him. "Old times?" Coach Blake said. "Yeah, my parents died last year." "I'm sorry Sadie." He said. "Thanks." I was quiet now and kept running. I finished my fourth lap, then headed back to the courts and waited for everyone to get back.
By the time everyone got done with their laps, it was already 10:45. He told us that he needed to do paperwork in his office. We walked inside to his office which was inside the gym. As we were walking through the gym, I saw my boyfriend, Tucker Baxter.
We have been dating for 1 and a half years. He is the captain of the Varsity soccer team, captain of the Football team, and he plays baseball. It would be an understatement to say that we're both jocks. Everyone keeps saying how our Senior Superlative is going to be "Cutest Couple", but I don't really know, lately we've been drifting apart.
We both started walking towards each other and when I got to him he hugged me. Then I smiled at him and said I had to go and that I would see him after practice. I felt eyes on me the whole time I was over here with Tucker. When I turned around I saw Blake looking at me from his office door. I walked past him into the office and sat down on the couch in there.
I was sitting on the couch when he called me up to his desk. I got to his desk and took the pen from him, our hands touched and it was like sparks were flying. He looked at me the same way I was looking at him. A little confused. I signed the last part of my paper and went back to my seat on the couch. As soon as everyone got done with the papers, he told us that practice was over and it would be the same time tomorrow.
"Sadie, can I have a word with you, please?" He said. "Actually Coach I'm late picking my sister up." I lied. " Have a good night." I said and with that I walked out of his office. I was walking out of the gym when Tucker came running up beside me and put his arm around my neck. I put my arm around his waist. We walked out of the gym and out to our cars. I said godbye to him and told him to have fun at work and to call me when he gets off.
