Chapter 2-
Sadie's POV
I say bye to Tucker and kiss him, while standing outside of his truck. He leaves and then I notice Maggie talking to some other girls from the team. I saw Coach Blake leaving the school when I was walking over there to start a conversation about the new freshman that we have on the team.
"I think we'll have a better set of freshman this year." Maggie said. "I do to, considering there was only one freshman last year." I replied, chuckling. "My little sister is a freshman." Lainey, a junior said. We started talking about our siblings and if they would play tennis.
"How about Kate, Sadie?" Lainey asked me. " I don't know if she's going to be here for high school next year, but she will probably play at her high school." I replied. Maggie said, "Everytime I have seen your sister play, she was really good." "Yeah, she is getting pretty good." I said.
That was what I liked about my brother, sister, and I. We were all very athletic. My dad, in high school was a track star, soccer captain, football player, he played baseball, and tennis. My mom was the volleyball captain, she was on the ski team, she played basketball, and she played soccer.
We finished up our conversation and we said goodbye to each other. I got in my car and plugged my phone into the AUX cord that I had in. I put Pandora on and Leave The Night On by Sam Hunt came on. I turned the volume up to 22.
When I was driving home I got so lost in the music thinking about Kate and what will happen when we go off to college. Before I knew it I was home. I was pulling into my driveway and I saw two moving trucks next door. I walked in the house and I heard my brother talking to someone. I walked into the den and saw Coach Blake.
"Hey Sadie, this is our new neighbor, Blake Miller. He's the tennis coach and a teacher at school." Anderson told me. "Hi." I said to him and smiled. "Well I have to go to football practice Sadie, and I'm going to Beth's house after and spending the night at Eli's house. So I won't be home tonight."I'll call you tomorrow." He said to me.
He turned to Blake and said "It was nice meeting you and welcome to the neighborhood." "You too, thanks." Blake replied. Anderson walked out of the house and it was just me and him standing there.
"How cool is it that I live right next to you?" He said with a smirk on his face. I just stayed silent. "You're a good tennis player." He said. "Thanks, I've been playing since I was three." I told him. "Really?" "Yep, my dad got me started." I said.
The phone started ringing, so I walked into the kitchen and answered the phone. It was my sister, she has been at camp for the last two weeks. She goes every summer. "I just wanted to let you know that pick-up is at noon on Friday." Kate said.
"Okay, I have tennis practice in the morning and then I'll leave and come get you. We can go to lunch if you want too." I said. "Yeah, sure. That would be great." She replied. "I have to go. I'll see you in 3 days, love you." She said. "Alright, love you too." I said back.
I hung up the phone and walked into the living room again. I stopped in the doorway when I saw Blake looking at the pictures on the table behind the couch. I leaned against the door frame.
"That was the day we brought Kate home from the hospital. I was so excited to be getting a little sister. She is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I love her so much. I'm scared about what's going to happen when we go to college. Who's going to watch her? Anderson and I have considered not going." I told him.
"Everything is going to be fine. You'll figure everything out." He reasurred me with a small smile. I wipped my face of the tears, I didn't realise that I had started crying. "So, why'd you move here? It's such a crappy town." I asked him.
"I was offered a job for the new sports fitness teacher at the school and the tennis coach was retiring." "You are the new sports fitness teacher?" I asked him. "Yeah, and I happened to notice your name on my first period attendence." He said. "Yeah. I wanted to take it. My p.e teacher freshman year told me that I should take it, and I never have had the time." I told him.
"Well it's going to be a fun semester. A lot of running." "Great!" I said.
"So what are you going to do about college?" He asked me. "I have no clue. Anderson and I don't know if were are going to go to college at all. It wouldn't be fair for me to go and him not or him to go and me not to go. I want to go so bad and experience the college life that my parents wanted me to have you know, but I just can't leave Kate here."
"We have also talked about going to the same college and just living at home, but then what about the sororities and the fraternities, and campus life, and all the parties? I know that we don't have to make a decision right now, but I want an idea of what we are doing, you know?" I said.
"Yeah, it must be hard to have to think about the responsibilities of taking care of your little sister, when your only a senior. Your life hasn't even begun yet." He said. "I know. I love my sister and I would do anything for her and Anderson, but... I haven't lived my life yet. I don't want to be stuck in this town, I was going to get as far away from this shit-hole town as I could. Now I can't." I said.
"Well maybe, everything will work out for the better." He said back to me. I smiled at him. I looked at the clock on the wall, it was 5:00pm already. Blake seemed to notice the time too. "Wow, look at the time! I didn't even realize that it had gone by so quickly. I'm going to head on over to my house and unpack my bed stuff and make some dinner. See you later Sadie." He said as he was walking to the door.
He was almost there when he turned around and said "hey do you want to join me for dinner?"
