Someone let a hellhound into camp.

Why?

Who cares, it took my sunshine.

"WILL!! WAKE UP"

My eyes shoot open. Maya, one of my sisters, was standing over me shaking my shoulders. I opened my mouth to ask her why she was waking me when a scream from outside interrupted me. I look wide eyed at the door then back at Maya. She sprints out the door and I chase after her in my pajama pants and wife beater. Outside was absolute chaos.

Cabin 2 was completely demolished and half of Cabin 1 was collapsed in on itself. I watched in terror as a hellhound, triple the size of Ms. O'Leary, bound over to the infirmary destroying everything in its path. I sprint after it when I grip at the wrist pulls me to such a stop I nearly fall over. I turn to see who stopped me to find two big round chocolate brown eyes.

"Nico, we have to-" I start. But Nico silenced me with a shake of his head. I whipped my head back to the infirmary to see it get completely crushed as the hell hound pranced around on top of it. Behind me Nico whimpers quietly and flinches in on himself, almost like he can feel the deaths of the injured campers. Then I remember he can.

"C'mon, we have to stop it before it can hurt anybody else," I say.

He nods and we run across the camp to the battle.

Percy, Annabeth and Jason were fighting the beast head on and Clarisse was standing back, protectively in front of the newly built hut that held Coach Hedge and his new family. Percy charged at the hound but was back slapped out of the way into the side wall of the big house; there was an audible crunch on impact.

"PERCY!" Annabeth cried, dashing towards him, where he lies on the ground unconscious.

Jason flew down full speed at the monster spear raised in hand only to get swatted away in a similar manner as Percy.

Nico reached over and squeezed my hand then got on his tippy toes and kissed my cheek.

"Stay here," he commanded.

He went to run to the fight but I caught his hand, "Wait!" He looked at me.

"What?"

"I love you," I told him. He just rolls his eyes.

"Tell me that when I win," he smirks then runs of.

Nico creeps around the edges of the monsters view while its occupied fighting off other campers, even though the fight was pretty one-sided. I snuck around the fight, trying to get to hurt campers, helping them the best I could. Then it happened.

The hell hound pawed another camper out of the way and out of nowhere Nico jumps in front of the monster. Just as the hound was about to claw Nico he raised his sword and sliced.

You could hear the wind whistle and the nasty crunch as Nico cut its skull in half. Just as the claws would have touched him the beast turned to golden dust. Nico turned around probably ready for appraise but was met by dead cold silence. I was right in front of him and had a perfect view of my worst nightmares. The triumphant smile he wore turned to a confused frown.

"What?" he asks, looking at me specifically. No one could look him in the eyes; they could all only stare at his torso. He looks down at himself confused.

There, stretching from across his left shoulder to his right hip were inch wide, deep claw gashes. Blood was flowing out soaking his shirt and pajama pants to his knees. Then he looks back up, one of his rare, perfect, beautiful smiles graced upon his lips.

"Oh, that," he says like it was nothing, then goes slack as his eyes roll into the back of his head.

"NICO!" I shout lunging forth, pushing over a girl, to catch Nico.

I get to him just before his head hits the floor. His sword clatters next to him. I cradle him in my lap already feeling his blood soak my clothes. I almost yell for someone to set him a bed in the infirmary when I remember it was destroyed. Tears start to roll down my cheeks as I look down at my dying boyfriend. He reaches up and presses his hand to my face. I know he's smudging blood onto my cheek but I lean into his touch anyways. I can hear murmurs going through the crowed of kids around us, but no one comes too close.

Annabeth and Piper run over to my side, followed by a woozy, limping Percy. Jason flies down sitting a little ways off, just close enough to see Nico in my arms.

Nico starts coughing up blood, his body shaking. There are a few gasps from the crowd and some kids turn away. When he's stopped I wipe the blood off his chin with my thumb. He looks up at me with those gorgeous watery brown eyes.

"C-can you s-sing t-to me?" he whispers.

I open my mouth but I can't make a sound so I shut it.

"P-please?" he begs. I nod.

I take a deep breath and start to sing,

"You are my sunshine

My only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You'll never know, dear

How much I love you

Please don't take my sunshine away

The other night, dear

When I lay sleeping

I dreamed I held you in my arms

When I awoke, dear

I was mistaken

So I hung my head and cried

You are my sunshine

My only sunshine

You make me happy

When skies are gray

You'll never know, dear

How much I love you

Please don't take my sunshine away

Please don't take my sunshine away" by the end of the song I couldn't sing right because I was a sobbing mess and my voice cracked numerous times through the whole song.

I looked back down at Nico who was smiling slightly, staring deeply into my eyes. Then they started to close, like he was tired and going to sleep. His hand fell from my face. My heart stopped and I hunched over and sobbed.

I could hear my own cries in my head and it had to be the most horrible sound I'd ever heard. It sounded as bad as I felt. And I felt like when Nico died I died with him.

It was completely silent in the camp, not a sound but my distraught, heartbroken sobs.

I whisper between sobs a quiet prayer to all the gods, "Please don't take my sunshine away."
