"I'm outside" he heard as he squinted his eyes. He looked at the window and it was still dark. He pulled his phone away from his ears and checked the time there.

1:09 AM.

"What the—" he thought as he stood up and looked out the window. There was a familiar car in front of their house.

Headlights and engine on. She was not coming out.

He grabbed a jacket with a hood from his closet then headed outside. It was raining a bit so he wore the jacket and pulled up the hood to protect his head from the rain.

He rode shotgun in the car, pulled his hood down, and looked at her.

"What the heck?!" He complained yet immediately stopped after he saw what she was wearing. Her loose satin tank top and shorts. It was a pair. The tank top had spaghetti straps. Those were her pajamas. She would never wear those to public.

"Aren't you freezing!?" He asked

"I am, but its too hot if I turned off the AC and I can't roll down the windows 'cause its raining" she replied, her face still on the road not even looking at him.

"What happened to you? Why are you here unexpectedly?" He was surprised for her sudden arrival. Usually, if she wanted to spend the night with him, she would text him beforehand.

She didn't say anything.

She then faced him and he saw how bloodshot her eyes were. He was shocked though it wasn't his first time seeing her eyes like that.

He then noticed something on her clothing. It was dark red but there was something darker on it.

He grabbed her wrist and saw cuts on it.

"I thought we agreed you wouldn't do this anymore?" He said frustrated with her actions.

She didn't reply.

He got out of the car, went back inside his house and grabbed the first aid kit and her favorite hoodie of his.

He returned to the car, cleaned out the wound and applied a strip of band-aid. He handed her his hoodie and demanded her to wear it because she was already shaking because of the cold.

Her knees were still shaking because it was still exposed to the cold.

He went out the car as the rain poured harder. He grabbed the blanket and pillows she kept at the trunk of her car. He handed this to her as he jumped in once again.

"I can't use that while driving" she told him

"Then I'm driving" he replied

"No." She gave him a death glare.

He sighed and surrendered.

"Where are we going?" He asked

She didn't reply.

He waited for a couple of minutes but there was still dead silence.

"Where are we going?" He asked again.

Still, she didn't reply.

"Love!" He shouted at her which made her go back to reality. He had noticed that she was lost in her thoughts.

"I don't know!" She shouted back immediately and gave him a long glare filled with anger, frustration, and sadness. He glared back as his eyebrows furrowed. He was confused, concerned, and clueless.

They were both distracted when they heard another vehicle honking at them.

It was the end, they both thought as she maneuvered the car avoiding an accident that could've easily occurred.

She stopped at the side of the road shocked at what happened and the feeling of anxiety came rushing back to her. Yesterday, she had dreamed of her father drowning. Today, she had experienced death being so close to both of them. She started to cry.

"Shit" he whispered.

"Fuck." she cursed.

He tried to process everything that had just happened. Once everything was clear to him, and he had calmed down, he checked her and saw her hand on her chest as she breathed like she was going to run out of air trying to grab as much as her lungs can and as long as she could. She could pass out any minute. It also wasn't the first time this had occurred to her and he knows what's happening. He always knows, especially with her physical health conditions that is being affected by her mental illnesses.

"I'm driving" he said

"No I want to dri—" she couldn't continue what she was going to say as he cut her off.

"No!" He replied with so much rage. "You almost had us killed! You're too distracted! You need rest! Now, switch!" He demanded like a police officer.

She was shaking with fear not just because of their near death experience, but because she has never seen her boyfriend infuriated like that. She had no choice but to switch with him.

The car ride was silent and she was pissed of the silence. She plugged her phone in the aux and played one of their songs on repeat.

-

The next thing she knew, bits of sun ray were hitting her eyes as she looked into the horizon. It was the break of daw and they were parked at a cliff, overlooking a beautiful lake that had a bunch of volcanoes in the middle of it.

It was her safe view. She felt safe and at peace whenever she saw that view.

She saw him outside her car, sitting lightly on the front of the car admiring the view as well. The song she had played on repeat was still playing on the radio.

She got out of the car and as he turned to see what created the noise, she was already in his arms.

He placed his arms around her as they stood there, admiring the view and feeling each other's warmth and comfort against the cruelty of life.
