Josh coughed and blood splattered from his mouth to his chest. His eyes looked to Amy frantically. He was pushed from behind and fell in front of her, his head lying on Amy's feet.
"Oh... NO! JOSH!" Amy screamed, bending down and taking his hand. "JoshstaywithmeIloveyouIcan'tlivewithoutyoupleasedon'tyou'llbeokay..." Amy continued speaking nonsense. Josh looked up at her pleadingly and Amy grew quiet.
"Amy," he choked out in a whisper. "Find David Levy. He'll tell you about-" He coughed again, squirting blood up onto Amy's face. She blinked and unthinkingly wiped her face with her hands. She started to shake when she brought her hands down, looking at the horrifying blood spots on her palms, only imagining what her face looked like. Amy looked back at Josh.
"Tell me about what? What, Josh? Answer me!" He smiled and looked at her strangely.
"Sing Good Enough for me. Last thing I want before-" he couldn't finish. He just kept looking at her with begging eyes. So Amy started to sing in order to fulfill Josh's last wish.
"Under your spell again, I can't say no to you." She took his bloody hand and put it to her chest. "Crave my heart and it's bleeding in your hand, I can't say no to you." She saw Josh struggling to keep his eyes open, which were turning more dim and glassy with each millisecond. Amy's eyes began to water.
"Keep going," he whispered hoarsely.
"Shouldn't let you torture me so sweetly." Amy managed to sing. "Now I can't let go of this dream, I can't breathe but I feel... Good enough. I feel good enough for you mmhmm..." She looked down at Josh again. She had never seen him smile that big since their wedding.
"Drink up sweet decadence. I can't say no to you. And I've completely lost myself, and I don't mind. I can't say no to you." Amy noticed that his breathing had quickened and his shuddering gasps could be heard clearly. She knew he was trying to stay conscious - no, alive, for the whole song. But Amy was trying not to think about that.
"Shouldn't let you conquer me completely. Now I can't let go of this dream, can't believe that I feel good enough. I feel good enough. It's been such a... Such a..." Josh's eyes closed.
"Keep singing always... Love you, Amy..." He took his last breath and was silent.
"Such a... No... Josh..." She closed her eyes, but then opened them again to look into the air as if she could see his spirit rising out of his body.
But she could. Looking closer she saw a faint, ghostly outline of her dearly departed husband.
"Keep singing, always..." She heard his voice in her head say. So she kept going.
"It's been such a long time coming but I feel good." She saw his spirit touch her shoulder. It felt strange, yet welcome. It felt like he was inside her, and she could see his memories, his thoughts, his feelings. The world around her began to change, and she realized with a start that she was in a small room, sitting at a charred piano. She was wearing a white almost see through shirt with white tails streaming behind her and black flowing skirt. She had translucent gloves on and her hair was in a messy bun. The room was on fire, yet it was raining. There was music playing, and she continued Good Enough.
"It's been such a long time coming but I feel good." She saw Josh's spirit appear in the flames on the top of the piano. "And I'm still waiting for the rain to fall. Pour real life down on me..." She choked again on the next lyric, realizing how true it was for her right at this moment. "'Cause I can't hold on to anything this good enough. Am I good enough?" At this question she looked into the flames in front of her.
"You always will be. To me and the world." A smile came to both pairs of lips at the same time.
"For you to love me too. So take care of what you ask me. 'Cause I can't say no..." The strings ended the song with their last note and Amy sighed happily.
That is, until she felt a much rougher hand shake her shoulder.
Amy opened her eyes and realized that she was no longer in the room nor her home. She was on a fairly uncomfortable cot that had a very putrid smell to it, like somebody had vomited on it several times and didn't bother to clean it up.
"Amy. Amy." She looked up and saw Ben staring down at her. "You've been passed out for over 12 hours. It's 8am!" Amy froze, and instantly struggled to get up and run to the nearest door.
She managed to get out of the bed but then something around her right wrist held her back. Amy looked and saw that she was chained to the bed. Fear jolted through her. 'What does he want from me? Did he really...'
"Amy..." Ben whined pathetically. "I didn't think I'd have to use that chain. I thought you loved me! It was just Josh holding you back, so now that I've gotten rid of him we can be together..." He had a creepy smile on his face and his eyes were wide and unblinking. Despair filled Amy.
"JOSH!" She screamed. "You... You killed him... You murdered him... My, my..." Ben spat at the ground.
"And what did he ever do for you? He never loved you as much as I did. Our love was real. His was fake and a big joke."
"He did everything for me," Amy barely whispered.
"He did NOTHING!" Ben yelled at the top of his lungs, but getting no response from Amy.
Amy was in shock that Ben would do something like this. She knew he was prone to abuse, as she had experienced it first hand, but she didn't know that he was capable of murdering someone in cold blood.
"Why do you think I would ever love you?" Amy retorted at Ben. Ben's eyes widened even bigger.
"Because you do. I know you do, you just need to realize it. I know deep down you know we're soul mates. We need each other." Amy gave Ben a terrible look.
"We fucking don't Ben. I hate everything about you. I hate that you're bald, I hate your goatee, I hate your personality, I hate your voice, I hate-" Amy was finished with a hard slap on her cheek.
"Say you love me. Right now."
"No."
"Now!"
"No!"
"Say it or I'll... I'll..." He smirked. "Or I'll kill Lzzy." Amy's eyes widened.
"No, Ben, please, I... I..." Ben got closer to her face.
"What?" Amy's pride broke. She didn't want her innocent friend to die.
"I... I love you, Ben."
