While Kankuro, and Temari were shocked at Xavyn's bravery, Gaara stood behind him, and used his sand as a shield when he could. Though Xavyn had no Shinobi training, and not much strength, he was able to use the items around him to his advantage, being able to climb up semi-smooth surfaces, he launched himself down from buildings, and onto the people who were hurting his friend. Kankuro, and Temari shook themselves from their stupor, ready to aid their brother, and his friend in the fight. Most people were so preoccupied with the small child of fury, they didn't notice Gaara sneaking up behind them until almost half of them lay dead on the ground. One by one, Gaara had wrapped sand around their body, lifted them in the air, and crushed them to death. Those who were left, froze in fear at the sight, and Xavyn felt his body go hot as he grabbed the first thing he could reach, and he swung it at the oldest person there. A glass shattering sound could be heard as well as a loud crunch, and heavy 'thump' sound when the body hit the ground. The kids ran away, and Xavyn panted harshly, his hands shaking violently as his anger started to fade.

"Dang, you are so cool!" Kankuro smiled as he wrapped his arm around Xavyn's shoulders, happy not to have Xavyn run away. "Nobody will ever hurt my friend again." Xavyn said, anger, and protectiveness lacing his voice as he flicked his gaze up at Gaara, who gave him a questioning look. "We're friends. You're my friend." Xavyn smiled, and opened his arms, Gaara hugged him, and snuggled against his friend's shoulder. "What have you done?" The siblings' father got their attention. "Kankuro, Temari, go home now." The siblings gave their new friend a sad look, and left with their father, leaving Gaara aching to reach out to them but also taking comfort in his friend's embrace. His father gave the pair a disgusted look that made Xavyn hold onto his friend tighter, a protective gesture. He left with his children, and Xavyn continued holding Gaara, his anger completely washed away by the other's presence. "I can't believe you did that...for me." "O-of course I d-did. I w-want to protect you, I want t-to get s-s-strong for you." Gaara smiled up at him, and they went back to Yashamaru's home, Yashamaru wasn't back yet so they had to figure out how to keep themselves busy.

That night, Gaara stopped in front of a picture of a woman who resembled Yashamaru. "Is that y-your m-mom?" "Yeah, she looks just like Yashamaru but she's older." Xavyn wrapped his arms around Gaara from behind, not noticing the thing in his hand until sand blocked his attack. "G-Gaara!" Xavyn grabbed the thing, and gently took it from his friend's hand so he couldn't try again. "Oh G-Gaara please d-don't do that." "No matter what people do to me, or what I do myself, I can't feel pain. The sand always gets in the way." "Wh-why would you w-want t-to feel pain?" Yashamaru stepped in the room, and saw the thing Gaara tried to stab his hand with. "Xavyn, would you give me that, please?" Xavyn held his hand up, above Gaara's head, and the adult took the weapon. "Gaara, I'm in charge of your safety, and well-being, it hurts me to see you do this." Gaara turned his head, and saw the bandages still wrapped around Yashamaru's arm where it took the brunt of Gaara's sand attack a week, and a half prior.

"Your wound...does it hurt?" Gaara asked. "Yes, a little bit. But it's barely a scratch, it'll heal in no time." Yashamaru gave him a small smile, and Gaara asked what pain felt like. "Well when someone is struck, or cut, they feel pain, and don't feel normal. I'm not explaining this very well, basically it's something you wanna avoid." "Yashamaru...do you not like me? Like the others?" Xavyn whined, and buried his face in Gaara's shoulder. "Everyone goes through life hurting others, and being hurt but it's not so easy for us to hate one another." "Thanks a lot, Yashamaru, that helped, I think I understand what pain is now."

Gaara put his hand on his chest, over his heart. "I think I might be hurting too. Just like everyone else, I'm always in pain. I know I'm not bleeding, but lately I've felt a lot of pain here." Xavyn rubbed around the area. "Now it's warm, it's warm, and doesn't hurt so bad when you do that." Yashamaru chuckled, and cut his finger so it would bleed. "Wound your body, and the blood will flow, following fast on the heels of pain. But as time passes, the pain will eventually fade. With the help of medicine, it will heal faster. But even more dangerous is a wound dealt to the heart because there's no way to heal it. There's no medicine for it, and sometimes it will never heal, and there are many ways to wound a heart. But don't worry, there's one cure that will mend a broken heart. It's a very complicated remedy, and can only be administered to you by another person." "So then...what do I have to do?" They looked at the picture of Gaara's mother, and Yashamaru told him there's one thing that can heal a broken heart; love. "What is it I have to do? What do I have to do to get rid of this pain?" "Don't you know, Gaara? It has already been given to you. Love is the heart's desire to serve someone precious to you. Watch over them, to care for them, like my sister did for you. There's no question my older sister always loved you. My sister, even after death, wants nothing more than to protect you. And I can tell Xavyn feels the same way about you my sister did. Don't you Xavyn?"
