"Please book studios so you can practice your choreography." Natalia waved us all goodbye as we left the studio.
"Hey, can I come over tonight?" Lena asked.
"Sure, there no need to ask. I honestly don't care if you just barge in," I laughed. Lena and I walked out of the studio, side by side. I saw Mateo speaking to Helda from the corner of my eye, and I decided to ignore them. Somehow, I was noticed.
"Katrina, could you come over here for a second?" Helda asked.
I looked at Lena, "I'll wait." I nodded my head and walked over.
"What do you need?" I asked.
"Mateo here tells me you are having trouble with the arabesque press lift. Is there anything I can help you with?" She asked.
I looked at Mateo before looking back at Helda. I hesitated. The truth was, I was having troubled. I was always pretty light, but I still had the fear Mateo would drop me. However, I didn't say that out loud as I didn't need to inflate Mateo's ego even more.
"Everything's fine," I said. Mateo eyed me.
"Well, tell me if you need any help," Helda said before walking away.
"I know something's wrong. Your body tenses up every time I lift or carry you. Either you have a thing for me, or you're not a good of a dancer as I thought." He said.
"Nothing's wrong, and I do not have a thing for you," I started to walk away but turned back around, "And by the way, I am an excellent dancer thank you very much."
I walked out through the glass doors, Lena following close behind me.
"What happened there. I know it wasn't good since Mateo had that smug look on his face," Lena said.
"He tried ratting me out to Helda saying I'm having trouble," I said.
"You? Having trouble? You're such a great dancer you wouldn't even have the slightest bit of trouble even if it was an alternate universe," She scoffed.
"Yeah," I said. "Well, I want to get in my car. It's cold out here."
"Agreed," Lena said. We went our separate ways. I climbed into my car and drove back home.
"Hi hon, how was your day," My mom greeted me. "Maria made some apple pie."
"It was fine. I'm going to take a shower. Lena's coming over later." I said.
"Alright, I'm going to put your pie on the fridge."
I turned on the water, steam filling my bathroom. I closed my eyes while the hot water ran over my body, soothing my aching muscles. What if Mateo was right? What if I'm not a good of a dancer as everyone thought I was? What if this whole time, I'm just seen as this legendary ballerina but come opening night of Romeo and Juliet, I blow it all? Everyone will know how terrible I am. Maybe I can just let Mateo drop me. Then I can break my leg and get surgery. I would have to stay in bed for a few months, but that would be enough for me to drop out.
Ugh. What am I thinking? Stupid Mateo and his stupid ass. I can't let him get to me. Not when I'm one step away from the Royal Ballet School. A few months ago, I applied for the school, and I sent in my audition video. They only had one opening spot and worked my ass off, putting the hardest moves in that video. I can't let that annoying ass ruin everything. Not now.
I stepped out of the shower, drying myself off. I put on my hoodie and paired it with black leggings and Vans. I check my phone and saw Lena had texted me.
