I tried my best to not stare.

"What's your mother's name?" Kyle snapped at me, ignoring the blond.

My mother's name? What was the importance of that? I furrowed my brow. "Why do you want to know my—"

"Just fucking answer the question," he spat.

I grimaced at his harsh tone. Oh, what the hell. . . "Her name is Debbie."

As if my mothers name burned the ground they stood on they shuffled backwards.. My mother could be a scary woman if the occasion called for it, but I didn't believe she's ever met these two teens before.

"Oh shit," Kyle said running a hand through his short red hair. Turning to his friend, he said matter-of-factly, "Evan, I believe we are in some deep shit."

Evan looked at me then back at Kyle, contemplating this. "Curt doesn't have to know," he offered.

I couldn't keep up with them. Who's Curt? I wanted to ask, but I didn't.

Kyle smiled appraisingly at his friend then turned to glare at me. "You won't tell on us, will you?"

I blinked at them. "Uh. . ."

Kyle narrowed his eyes, his face mocking. "Uh. . . what?"

Evan snorted at Kyle. "Because scaring her is going to work." He gave me an apologetic smile. "He's not a very patient guy."

Kyle sniffed. "Nope."

"Look," I said slowly, giving them weird looks, "I don't know really what's going on but if you guys show me a way to get back to my house. . ." I paused. Kyle glared harder when I stopped, his body tensed up which made him look even bulkier.

"I promise I won't tell."

Their bodies visibly relaxed and Kyle smiled fully at me while Evan looked thankful.

"I like this girl, Evan." Then Kyle looked at me with an appraising look. "You got a deal, Haley."

"What are you guys up to now?"

I jumped at the new voice. All three of us turned towards the new person who was actually surprisingly close. He was fairly tall with light, shaggy brown hair. He was wearing simple blue jeans and a plain green tee-shirt that seemed to fit him perfectly.

"Fox," Evan gasped, grabbing his chest as if to slow down his heart. "I thought you were Curt for a second."

"Why do you have to sneak up on us like that?" Kyle snapped, sounding just as breathless as Evan. He picked up a lone twig on the ground and threw it at Fox. "We're not doing anything bad."

The one named Fox caught the twig and tossed it to the side. "Uh-huh," he nodded, incredulous. He nodded in my direction. "Who's the girl?"

Kyle grinned and crossed his arms over his chest. He looked like he was so proud to be telling the truth. "She's Curt's girl."

This time Fox looked at me. He was studying me for a while, as if not sure whether or not Kyle was lying, then his eyes bulged. "She looks just like Debbie," he murmured.

Kyle nodded enthusiastically. "Right? I didn't notice it at first . . . but thank God I did!"

"You didn't notice it, she had to tell you, idiot," Evan scoffed. "Don't credit yourself."

Kyle glared at him but stood still not doing anything. Fox just kept staring at me.

"Excuse me," I piped in. Everyone's attention was back on me, save for Fox for he was already focusing in on me. "I'd like to go home now, if you don't mind."
