Almost the full moon...

The moon was shining. Not yet full, but close. When I lived in the city I wasn't allowed to lie outside and simply bask in the moonlight, it was too unsafe. But now this was different. We weren't in a big city where the crime rates weren't an appealing number. The only harmful thing in the woods would be bears and my chances of running into those were slim. I vaguely remember saying that the last time I went for a walk but brushed the memory away.

I tiptoed to my door, putting my ear against it. I heard light snores drifting into my room. Mom was asleep....a deep sleep, judging by the snores. I smiled.

Going out the front door was a no-no. Firstly, the floors creaked with each step a person took, almost as if it wanted anyone trying to sneak out get caught. And secondly, you could only open the front door by putting as much force into it as you could muster, and when finally opened, it made the sound of a large, dying toad. I looked at my window. It was big enough for me.

"I hope," I murmured to myself.

I lifted the window up slowly and hoisted my legs so that they hung down, my heels hitting the outside paneling of the house and shot forward, landing on the ground. Huh, I thought to myself. That was easier than I thought it was going to be.

I walked barefoot out onto the lawn, making my way to an area as far away from my house as possible. I settled onto the soft grass, slowly allowing my back to relax. Between the clouds, the moon showed a beautiful silver-white glow, warming me. I don't know what it was about the moon  felt so... loving. I felt secure about myself in the moonlight, fearless and confident. I closed my eyes, indulging myself in the great feeling.

There was a short rustling not too far from where I lay.

"Hello?" I called out.

My ears started to ring as my heart quickened its pace. It was way too quiet. The hairs on the back of my neck rose. My instincts kicked in. I shot straight up, no longer relaxed, and started backing up towards the house. I felt dread in the pit of my stomach as I realized the walk back to my house was quite a ways, especially when walking backwards. But there was no way I was going to turn my back on the woods. I didn't trust anything out there.

A low growl emitted from the trees.

I screamed and ditched my previous strategy, breaking into a full blown run back to my house.

I saw a large shadow jump over my head, landing directly in front of me. I looked up in terror at the beast, the pit of my stomach dropping in fear. The creature had very shaggy, dark brown hair almost like...a giant dog. I felt the warm breath escape its mouth in pants at the top of my hair, making it moist. As it leaned its large snout closer to my face I fell down trying to cringe away from it. I covered my face in my hands. It let out a whine and tried nudging me to move my hands. When I didn't budge it then backed away and I peeked through the cracks in my hands, watching where it was going.

It stopped moving when almost out of my eyesight. The giant shadow's shoulders began to shrink in size. What I knew were paws began to lower the creature as it withered into its body, its back legs straightening and shrinking as well, so that it was standing. The creature began to morph into what looked like a human.

I couldn't watch anymore. I stood up and started to run back towards my house, adrenaline pumping energy into my body making me run faster.

"No—no—no!" a familiar voice called after me hurriedly.

I stopped abruptly, turning around. Someone ran into me, my face hitting their warm bare chest. Their hands caught my shoulders, keeping me steady. I looked up and saw brown shaggy hair with matching brown eyes. Numbly, I thought of how nice it would be to stay with my head resting on his well-toned chest like we were a couple. Then I looked down. "Oh my God, you're naked," I said, blushing. I quickly averted my eyes and cringed away from his hold.
