I woke up and my mum was sat infront of me holding a little box up for me to take. I take it fo her hands and slowly open it Surrounded in bubble wrap was a beautiful silver necklace. The small pendant attached to it was in the shape of a dark blue sun. Carefully, I took it out and twirled it around with my index finger and thumb.

"Do you like it?" my mother asked tentatively.

I looked up at her and saw that she looked anxious, too. I forgot that she was sitting there. Quickly I smiled and squeezed the necklace in my hand.

"It's beautiful." And I meant every word.

Her grin turned into a full blown smile. "I'm glad."

I opened my hand and looked back down at it.

"Can you put it on me?" I asked her, not taking my eyes from it.

I heard her come behind me and I held the necklace out to her, keeping my gaze on it until she took it and pulled it behind me. My chest tightened with anxiety until my mom wrapped it around my neck. I immediately relaxed.

"Where did you get it?"

"Your grandmother," she said. "And she got it from your great grandmother, who got it from your great-great grandmother, and so on. It's been in the family for a very long time."

I nodded numbly, not really listening, and grabbed the pendant and stared at it some more.

"We're leaving soon, are you ready now?"

I blinked and turned my attention from the necklace to her. "What?"

"The party. Didn't I tell you already?"

"What party?"

"Oh, sorry. We're going to a barbeque."

"Nope, you never told me about that. Who's going to be there?"

"Just some old friends of mine," she said airily. "Hurry up and get changed into something nice."

"Okay," I said. "Is this party going to be some sort of fancy occasion? Or just like a get together and you want to make a good impression?"

She paused. "Both."

I nodded slowly then got up from the table to go to my room. "Alrighty."
