Cryoatic obviously had a destination in mind, not that the other three could tell where they were going. Cry's ability to download a map of the facility into his brain and open the doors in their way slightly concerned the others, but he had yet to do anything to give them any reason not to trust him.
"Did you cause the breakout?" Minx asked, walking next to the technopath.
"Inadvertently, yes."
"How?"
"Well..."
Cry's head moved slightly from side to side, giving the impression of wanting to answer but not wanting to tell.
"They let me keep all my clothes for a reason. Anyone who makes skin-to-skin contact with me goes insane, or just turns evil. One of the guards touched me and, after the effects settled in, pressed emergency purge. Anything that can move on its own is loose, though most of what we've got in this facility isn't sentient or sapient. We're some of the only thinking creatures in here, and practically all of the others are gone by now."
Minx had added about a foot of space between her and Cry at his admission, feathers fluffed in alarm. He tilted his head toward her, though his hoodie and mask blocked any insight into his hair or even skin color.
"I won't hurt you. Not unless you attack me, and I'm not too worried about that. What are you planning on doing once we're out, anyway?"
Minx shrugged, but Yamimash answered, "I'm going to find a cabin out in the woods and live off the land. No more cages of any kind."
Ken spoke up.
"I was thinking of building my cabin. Maybe we can visit each other sometimes."
Minx shrugged again, before finally responding, "I'd settle for a nice bed after I get out. I'll figure the rest out as I go."
Cry nodded, pausing to open a door.
"I think I agree with Minx. A real bed would be...nice..."
All four stared at the hall in front of them. It was filled with fire. Bright orange, yellow, and red tongues of flame licked up and down the walls and floor. As they stared, what at first glance looked like a thick bit of flame broke off in a human form. It looked at them with white eyes and started towards the group.
Minx reacted, shrieking and taking off, grabbing Cry and Ken as she went while Yami fell against her, getting shoved along by the speedster. All let out shocked yelps as their momentum was suddenly stopped by an invisible force. It hoisted them up, restricting their arms to their sides and, as Minx and Yami found out, suppressed their powers.
The flame-human walked up to them, eyes narrowing. Minx felt her breath catch in her throat. This thing was going to kill them. This Phoenix was going to burn them to a crisp. This was their death.
"Where were you going?" it asked, making Minx de-flinch slightly.
"Out," Cry answered, though all the emotion had left his voice. The flame-being stared at him, ignoring the others.
"Who are you? I could make you tell me, or find out on my own, but I prefer to be on good terms with people."
Cry answered before Ken, who had opened his mouth, could.
"I am SCP 2267, Cryoatic. The dark haired man is SCP 2034, Cinnamontoastken. The Brit is SCP 2219, Yamimash. The girl is SCP 2579, Mangaminx. Who are you?"
The flames surrounding the man seemed to die down slightly.
"SCP 2139. Pewdiepie, which is the name I prefer. You said you knew the way out?"
Cry nodded, poker face smiley not giving anything away.
"Mind if I tag along? I can help with soldiers and other SCPs, if we find any. There probably won't be, though."
"Why not?" Minx asked, having not quite relaxed but willing to try and get on friendly terms with the pyro. Said SCP frowned, flames dying even more.
"There's something hunting in here. I caught a glimpse of it when it chased a group of soldiers down a hall. It looked like a human made of shadows, and moved around on six tendrils that grew from its back. I'm pretty sure it's the reason this place is so empty."
Cry nodded, saying, "SCP 2080."
Pewdiepie shrugged, his flames dying completely to reveal a fair-skinned man with tawny hair and reflective brown eyes. Minx felt her feet touch ground as the telekinetic restraints vanished She stretched her wings, mussed feathers sliding back into position.
"Sorry about hanging you. You're the first friendly things I've met in here."
The four waved it off, understanding the need for a preemptive strike completely. Cry started leading again, while Pewdiepie fell back to talk to Ken. The corridor they had run from was no longer on fire. Briefly running her mind over Pewdiepie's power list, Minx wondered if it ever was. The pyro winked at her, smirking, before returning to his conversation with Ken.
