luke was tired, but he just couldn't stop thinking about what had happened, where he had messed up.

luke was peacefully dreaming of his and kailey's first date. he was dreaming of the picnic by the pond he had set up, and the lights lining the trees surrounding them. he was dreaming of the meal he had set out, although he was a horrible cook. he remembered how his mom had helped him over the phone with preparing the food.
during his dream, he hadn't seen kailey yet. they were sitting on the blanket, but she wouldn't look at him. luke leaned into kiss her, the girl he thought was kailey, and kat turned around.
luke awoke quickly, shaken up by the dream he had just had. it was the equivalent of a nightmare to him. it was happening again, kat was getting inside of his head and messing him up. he was afraid he would do something stupid, and lose kailey. that was the last thing he wanted to happen.
god, why did kat have to come visit now? things were just getting good for luke. he had a stable relationship, was doing great at his university, and had just applied for an internship as an assistant at a lab. now with kat in town, everything was going to fall apart, and he knew it.
luke was pulled out of his thoughts by the movement of kailey. she had rolled herself over and curled herself into luke's body. he took another moment to admire her face, amazed at the beauty. he didn't understand how one girl could have so much beauty and not know it.
luke thought again about their relationship, how far they had come since luke first met her. how much better she had made him. this led him into thoughts of his relationship with kat. how it had torn him apart and made him into an appearance-obsessed, sex-craving hog. kat certainly brought out the worst in him, while kailey brought out the best. it was clear who luke loved. he loved kailey, and she was the best thing he had ever gotten and could ever have.
he knew kat didn't want to hear something like that. she wanted luke and she had made that clear, and there was nothing luke or kailey could do to stop her from getting what she wanted, or at least wrecking their relationship. if kat couldn't have something, than no one could. and that applied to luke's love life as well.
luke checked the clock again, seeing it was 3:36 in the morning. man, this day was going by slowly. it was only two hours ago he had picked up kat. he was going to be really fucking tired tomorrow.
luke tried to go to sleep but his mind was racing, full of fear of what was to come in these next few days. luke was afraid of kat, and he was afraid of losing kailey. finally, luke's eyelids became heavy as he sank into a comfortable sleep, dreaming of meeting green day.
