Before Paul. After the end of The Overlook. Annie Wilkes stepped out of her car, looking around at the ruins her ex-boyfriend had obsessed over. It used to be The Overlook.
Annie sat down on a moss-covered rock, pissed to all hell that these ruins, well, ruined her relationship. Poor boy, all chopped up to bits now.
"Oh, darn you! You cock-a-doodie hotel!" Annie screamed, kicking a fallen board with her flats.
"That's not very kind of you." A voice rang out from behind Annie.
She jumped, almost falling off her rock.
"Who are you?! What are you doing here, you brat?" Annie got up, cradling her favorite book, 'Misery's Child' like a baby.
"Jack. I like you, kid."
Annie blinked for a moment, praying this was one of her psychotic dreams. Jack was gone. The man who burned down the hotel was gone.
"Thank goodness..." Annie wiped the sweat from her forehead, sighing with relief.
"I'm not leaving just yet, want a drink?" Jack chuckled, his voice deep and fluctuating.
"I-I don't drink, Mr. Torrance." Annie tried looking away from him, but she couldn't.
"Oh, so you do know who I am," Jack leaned on his croqet mallet, "Probobly because of that whole, trying to kill my family, burning down the hotel thing, right?" He let out another psychotic laugh.
"Yes Mr. Torrance, that wasn't very kind of you. So what are you, exactly? You can't be an angel. I heard you were one dirty-bird." Annie snarled.
"Ghost, spirit, I'm not quite sure. The real question is, why the hell are you here?" Jack wrapped his arm around Annie, clearly trying to piss her off.
"Don't you dare badmouth me, Mister. I'm here because my boyfriend, er, ex-boyfriend used to come here to take pictures of the ruins." Annie pushed Jack off of her, sitting back on the rock.
"Hm, and what happened to him?" Jack smiled wide, resting the mallet on his shoulder.
"He's gone now."
"What'd you do to him, you crazy bitch? I know you are just like me, just, a helluva lot more annoying. What did you do?" Jack pestered, getting in Annie's face.
"I didn't touch him."
"That's a lie."
"Be quiet and go back to whatever underworld you came from."
"You chopped him to bits, didn't you? Putting him in the woods like that was smart. Especially during the winter. Let's hope the remains don't wash up near the hiking trail." Jack wheezed, bending over as he chuckled to himself.
"If I could get rid of you, I would." Annie looked at Jack with her signature empty stare.
"You can't kill a dead man. You sure you don't want a drink?"
"I'm leaving."
Annie opened her car door, watching as Jack wiped a tear from his eyes from laughter.
"I hope you stay here forever, dirty birdy." Annie said, surprisingly calm as she closed her car door, clinging to 'Misery's Child' for dear life.
Annie blinked, and Jack's face was almost pressed against the car window.
"Get the Novril. At the hospital. It will help him stay quiet."
