Exactly 8:00 am, I arrived at Sanghaya's Office which is rare. Pinihit ko yung doorknob without me thinking kung andoon na ba yung ibang staffers or even the school paper advisers. I guess I had a good sleep huh. Pagbukas ko, I saw few of the staffers inside the room, some just lifted their heads and I received some greetings from the lower batch. I politely nod and smiled at them at sumalampak na ako sa sarili kong station.
Saglit kong inabala yung sarili ko ubusin yung laman ng tumbler ko which contains my breakfast while waiting for my laptop to start up.
'Miadelle.' it was Loren who called for my attention. I eyed him to let him know that he got my attention. 'Pinapatawag lahat ng editorial board for a short meeting sa office ni Miss Alcantara.' Dagdag niya.
'Now na ba? Hindi pa kumpleto yung staff ko eh.' I scanned the room kahit alam ko kung sino yung MIA na naman. Always late. Pa-importante akala mo talaga.
'Hindi naman. 10 am pa naman. Sinabi ko lang sayo.'
'I see. Halos 2 hours pa naman so we still have time to prepare. Thanks.' He simply nod and went back sa table niya.
I immediately grab my phone to leave some threat to someone.

Better be here 5 minutes before 10 am.
That must be enough as my warning since iyong tao na iyon yung tipo na late ka na nga mas late pa siya sayo. No matter how good he is as a writer and as my associate editor I still hate the fact that he acts as if time is nothing but a piece of rock when it is a freaking gold!

JWU. Copy Boss.
Aba. Hindi na talaga nahiya ang mokong. Before I could formulate numerous ways to educate him how important it is to be punctual, I concentrated at my own work. I still have a lot of articles to review for checking and proofreading and follow up my section editors.
This is my last term as the editor in chief and nth year of being a campus journalist. As much as I love the competition before with my fellow seniors, especially with Loren's team, hindi mo na mararamdaman yung ganoong vibe ngayon. I guess me and my batchmates would like to enjoy rather than compete. Creating memories without so much pressure on ourselves. I think it's a blessing in disguise na nadagdagan pa ng dalawang taon ang high school years namin.
Two years ago akala namin na its going to be over for journalism since we are going to Senior High little did we know, ibabalik at ibabalik talaga kami where our hearts belong. Ayan, medyo boring na tuloy. Wala ng competitive vibe rito, yung tipong bawal masilip ng Filipino category ang list of topics nila and vise versa. Taguan ng mga file folder. Payabangan during the breaks. The Sanghaya and Ang Sanghaya used to work that way, which created a very healthy competition back then. May ganoon pa rin but then its subtle now.
Bumukas yung pinto na pumutol sa pagbabaliktanaw ko.
'Ang aga ko dumating be proud of me.' Even without me looking, amoy pa lang that I was able to inhale, alam ko na. Alonzo Matteo finally arrived!
'Thank you pa ba? You are supposed to be here at 8:00 am. Not because excuse ka sa class mo pwede ka ng magpatanghali.' I glared at him. Ayokong magsermon but hell to it I'd rather have someone na hindi magaling basta on time.
'Tama na yan. Pumunta na tayo sa office.' Nica, our managing editor butt in since few minutes nalang ay meeting na.
I collected my stuff that I need to bring with me while calming myself. Nakakaasar. Fine, pikon talaga ako. Anything could easily get under my skin. Argh.
We walked to Miss Alcantara's office silently and upon entering, we immediately greeted her and make ourselves comfortable. She is not the typical principal that will give you the eerie feeling of strictness, she's a mother to us since she happens to be one of the school paper advisers as well.
'Loren and Miadelle, kamusta ang progress?' she asked. I was about to answer but Loren answered first.
'Halfway through na po. We are just waiting for the events na kailangan pang i-cover pero na distribute naman na lahat ng articles na kailangang gawin sa mga writers.' Miss A is just listening attentively to whatever he's saying.
'Kayo, Miadelle?' She directed her attention.
'Ganun din po, plus marami-rami na rin po yung naibalik na article for revisions.' I answered. She just nodded in response.
'Nga pala, the submission of the paper would be on January 5 sa regional office so you have less than a month to do necessary things. Sana by next week we can send the articles and other content sa layout artist, kaya ba?' she added. Mukhang ito na ang huling taon kong Christmas break sa press office huh. Ganito kas ang nangyayari palagi, despite the break kami nasa school pa just to finish whatever it is that we have to do.
After that, she dismissed us and while we are walking back, I called the attention of my team. 'Guys, sama-sama tayo rito ah walang mang-i-indian.' Natawa lang sila sa akin. We are all used to this kind of setup. Taon-taon na kaming ganto and despite the endless grunts and rants makikita mo pa rin kaming magkakasama. Ironic but then if you really are passionate about something ganto ang mangyayari.
