(m/c) = main character
(m/c) is the child of Iroh and the mother is unknown. (m/c) was with their father (Iroh) when he was taught fire bending by the dragons. There, (m/c) was taught the basics of fire bending and was a good learner. After Iroh's failed attempt at capturing the city at Ba Sing Se and the loss of his son (apparently his son died during the failed attempt. idk just learned that from google), He basically abandoned (m/c) in order to save (m/c) from his failures.
(this is just how the scenario went down in my mind but you can change if you want)
Iroh left (m/c) on the outskirts of the earth kingdom, Omashu. Soon a wealthy noble of the earth kingdom and his wife were entering the city and found (m/c). They decided to "adopt" (m/c) since they desperately wanted a child. They decided that they wanted to keep (m/c)'s fire bending a secret because people often associated firebending as a bad thing. After a couple months living in Omashu, (m/c)'s adopted parents decided to move to Ba Sing Se. Since they were nobles, they were allowed to live in the upper ring. (m/c) is faced to live in the same city where their real father faced his greatest defeat. But overall, growing up in Ba Sing Se was really good for (m/c). They had a large, private backyard where (m/c) could practice fire bending a little.
But eventually, (m/c) was caught by the Dai Li for fire bending. (m/c) was sent to Lake Laogai where they basically imprisoned them. Long Feng decided to imprison (m/c) because he knew that (m/c) was Iroh's child and could be used against the fire nation. In Lake Laogai, (m/c) was still able to practice fire bending but it was for a limited amount of time and since they didn't formally learn how to fire bend, they created their own stances/forms for firebending.
(finally where they enter the main storyline. It starts where they are trying to get Appa in Lake Laogai).
(m/c) had be imprisoned for a long time. that didn't mean that they were weak. In fact, they had become a very powerful firebender but had to create they own technique due to lack of formal education on firebending. After hearing all this commotion of the Dai Li chasing team avatar, (m/c) felt like this was their chance to finally break out. ( you can create something about how they broke out of the cell. I'm not going to do all the work lol).
Well trying to help team Avatar and themselves escape Lake Laogai, they all run into and Azula. After Azula convinces Zuko to be on her side, Azula "kills" Aang and that's when Iroh steps in. At first (m/c) is surprised to see their but is willing to help him protect Aang and Katara. Even though (m/c) was more powerful than Azula and Zuko, They surrendered with Iroh at the end.
After being thrown into prison by the Fire Nation, Zuko is baffled by (m/c) 's firebending skills and the fact that Iroh did not mention having another child. Fire Lord Ozai becomes interested in (m/c)'s firebending and decides to release them from prison. (m/c) is in fact royal blood. But Ozai only freed (m/c) because he wants to know how (m/c) became so powerful and he wants to improve his army with (m/c)'s techniques to definitely secure the victory at Ba Sing Se. Azula becomes very jealous of (m/c)'s firebending which becomes a part on why she devolves as a character.
(m/c) doesn't want to teach Ozai their firebending because they leaned the basics from the dragons and they know that firebending shouldn't be used for evil. After Zuko betrays Ozai and leaves to join team avatar, Ozai throws (m/c) back in prison due to (m/c)'s lack of cooperation.
There (m/c) and Iroh escape in order to go to the order of the white lotus. (m/c) fights along their father in the final fight against the fire nations attack on Ba Sing Se.
After team Avatar wins the fight, and Zuko becomes firelord, (m/c) becomes one of the top generals of the fire Nations where they teach their techniques but while they teach the importance of control and inner peace.

wow. that was really long. feel free to change anything. That's just how my storyline would go. Note: this is based of the TV show. I didn't do research so it might not match with the really in depth timeline.
