I'm now fully dressed, but I paste back and forth in Will's bedroom, debating if I should even go out. He's seen everything! How am I supposed to look him in the eye after this? Just the thought makes my face heat up.
Ugh no, I can't just cower down even though he's seen parts of me that no other guy besides my dad has. But even then, I was like four. It was only if my mother was sick and couldn't give me a bath or dress me, which was rare.
I put those thoughts aside and see my way out of Will's bedroom, making sure that my book is still in the place I left it. The sky is a solid light blue, illuminated from the bright sun that now shines down on me. I cover the sun with my hand so I wouldn't have to squint my eyes looking up.
There's a stronger breeze today, but it's not too much to where it would lift up my dress. Instead, my dress just slightly blows in the direction with the wind. My blonde hair is still damp from the bath, so it lays in a darker color on my shoulders. I pull out a strand of my still wet hair from my mouth that was moved by the wind.
I focus my eyes on the surrounding people in front of me. They don't seem to notice me quite yet, as they are all continuing onto their own tasks. My eyes search for a certain person, but he's no where to be seen which relives me some, but also makes me feel a little unsettled.
I look a little to the left of me to see a scrawny boy mopping the wooden floorboards. He looks like he's doing a sloppy job, just waving the soaked locks of yarn in random places. I walk over to him and tap him on the shoulder. The boy turns around to face me and his face flushes red. His eyes widen, and he drops the broom. Before I could get a word out, he rushes to a door and enters, leaving me speechless. Well, that was weird. Maybe I look frightening. He doesn't look older than 14 after all.
With the sudden commotion, more people realize I'm standing here. Some of them are glaring at me, and others are smirking.
A big, bulky, man wearing a ripped white shirt that shows his humongous arms starts walking over to me. I try my best to stay calm. He has a long beard, but barely any hair on the top of his head. Just his hands alone are probably the size of my full face.
"Blimey! Why aren't you a pretty little thing. Couldn't really see what ye looked like last night. Captain mentioned you to be pretty, but not as pretty as I expected," the man smirks.
I swallow hard and take two steps back from him to keep a safe distance. He eyes my action skeptically, but thankfully does not follow.
The door opens again, and this time comes out Will with another man that follows behind him. He looks over at us curiously, and I rush passed the big bulky man to stand besides Will.
"Is he bothering you?" Will looks over at me in concern.
"Uh no, he didn't really have a chance to say much. I ran from him, but he gave me the creeps," I say honestly, and hushed so the bulky pirate guy would not overhear.
By now the whole crew is watching things unfold, and curious about our relationship. I hug myself, unsure of what to do with all this attention that's making me feel uncomfortable. Will seems to notice.
"Listen up," he hollers out, "this is Serenity. And like I said before, she is here to stay for the time being. You will be kind to her and only speak to her if she speaks to you. If she need a something I expect that you will help her out, and don't forget about our conversation earlier. Especially you, Sid."
I watch Will eye each and very one of them. He eyes the Sid guy that was talking to me a little longer. It surprises me how he remembers my name. I've never once mentioned it, and yet he must have taken note to when the King had called me out. But that's not the most surprising thing. He thinks I'm pretty? And even voiced it out to the other pirates.
Those thoughts quickly replace with the mishap from earlier. My face flushes, and I scurry away from Will, as well as the other pirates who are listening to him. I can feel all of their stares on my back, but continue to where I watched the stars from last night.
The wind hits me harder here, but there is no way I'm going back over their right now. Either way, I'll be uncomfortable. At least this way, I'll be uncomfortable by myself.
I look up, avoiding the blazing sun by covering it with my hand again to see a bird. It sores through the light, blue sky with its wings flapping, using the wind as an advantage. The bird is surely beautiful with its vibrant colors. Blue, yellow, red, orange, and a couple others.
"That's Pocket," Will said, coming up from behind me.
Will whistles, and the bird comes bolting down to land on his shoulder. I smile at the bird while he nuzzles against Will's cheek.
The bird yells out catching me by surprise, "Cracker scallawag!"
"Hey, what did I tell you about using that wording? Especially in the company of guest," Will lectures the bird.
I raise my eyebrows at him, but he seems more focused on the talking bird. I've never seen a bird talk before.
"Crack, cracker, cracker!" The bird calls out.
Will rolls his eyes, but obeys his command and gives Pocket a cracker. I chuckle at him, and he turns back to look at me.
"Think this is funny, huh?" He jokingly questions.
I nod my head up and down, still smiling. I fell comfortable around him, and I shouldn't. I need to know my place. My smile drops and I face the other way.
"Serenity, what's wrong?" He questions in concern, which only upsets me more.
I couldn't just stand there so I whip back around, "Whats wrong? You're a pirate and I've grown up hating pirates! Please stop meeting me like this, I want to find that man and get off of this wretched ship as soon as possible. I don't need no friends along the way, epically one such as yourself."
I could see the hurt on his face, but he then composes himself and walks away. I feel a pang in my chest and instantly regret everything I said. It was more to convince me, but I knew I'm also trying to push him away. It's better this way though. I don't need no distractions. I'm here to do one thing, and one thing alone.
