A/N: Hope you all like this fan fiction!☺️ Comments and votes are appreciated! All rights go to the lovely, and talented Veronica Roth! I love her story and she's the reason I'm writing this! Some characters belong to her, some belong to me.
"We know about your Divergence, Scarlett. Did you really think you could keep that from us?!?"
The leaders all corner me in a square, I'm on the edge of the chasm. Just one push, and I'm gone. Tears threaten to spill down my face. I blink till their gone. I scowl at Max.
"I knew you would find out, eventually. Took you long enough." I smirked at him. Being Dauntless means being brave. And this is where I test my braveness. I take a cautious step forward. There was five of them. I could never take them...
"Be brave." And thats when the darkness devours me.
~
"AHHH!!" Sweats running down my face, and tears are sliding down my chin. I sigh in relief. It was just a dream, I'm not dead. The leaders haven't found me.
"Aptitude test day!" My mother shrieks coming in. I glance up at her. Her face falls. "Honey..." She comes and envelops me in a hug, and I bury my face in her chest. "What's wrong?"
"Just a dream."
She looks down at her hands. "The leaders again?"
I gulp, and nod slowly.
"Oh sweetie, you're safe here. I won't let anyone hurt you." I feel a kiss press onto my forehead. You can't protect me, anymore, I whisper to myself.
"Well up you go! Big day today!" She begins to walk out of the room, then slowly turns around, refusing to meet my stare. "Honey, I know that you're thinking about going to Dauntless... I understand you don't think you belong here... I get that. Once a Dauntless, always a Dauntless, but the same goes for Amity. The leaders, they will find you out there, and they will kill you. You understand the risk you're taking if you go there, correct?" I nod. Then, she spins on her heel, and shuffles out of the room. I'm going to Dauntless, and she can't and won't stop me. Like she said, "Once a Dauntless, always a Dauntless."

"Ashlynn Marie." I glance up at the Dauntless man stating my name. I slowly stand up and cautiously walk over to him. He leads me through halls of testing rooms, then finally reaches mine, room number 100. He looks at me, smiles, and says "Good luck." I give him a fake smile. When he leaves I suck in a breath, turn the doorknob and let out.
"Have a seat." The Dauntless woman doesn't even look up. I smirk, typical Dauntless. "Something amusing to you, Amity?" She must've noticed me smirk.
I clench my teeth, so I don't say something that she wouldn't consider "An Amity" way of speaking. I smile at her, "No, miss." I silently walk over to her, and take a seat, like she had ordered. She pours a blue liquid into a cylinder type vial.
"Drink." I tilt the cool liquid into my mouth, and let it slide down my throat. Moments after that, my eyes begin to close.
~
"Choose."
"Why do I have to choose?"
"Do it, before your to late." I grab for the knife, but it vanishes. I curse under my breath. I hear a snarl behind me. A dog approaches me with a violent look on its face. It charges me. Here goes nothing. I slowly get down on my knees, and pray to God that dog stops. Whimpering sounds are all I hear now. I slowly glance up at the dog. He looks happy, so I start to pet him, smiling, well that was easy.
"Puppy!" The dog growls, getting ready to charge. Without thinking, I lunge at the dog, and snap its neck. The dog whimpers and its body weight crashes to the ground. I let out a cry, tears running down my cheek. I keep whispering to myself, "It was either the dog or the girl," thinking it will make the guilt go away.
The scene changes. I'm at the chasm in the Dauntless compound. Not this again. How would this be on the test?! I'm thinking up strategies of how to get out of this. The leaders approach me. I look around, frantically. I see a gun by my feet. I pick it up, and stick it in my back pocket. Max approaches me, a smirk plastered on his face.
"Funny, you thought we wouldn't figure out your Divergence. You're not just a typical Divergent, either. Somehow, you can put an object, or a solution in the simulation, to use for yourself, with your mind, such as a gun," He glances behind me, must be at the gun, "to make the simulation easier." I gasp, the shock coming to me. This is why they wanted to kill me so bad! I never knew this, I've never been in a sim before... "Before you die would you like to say something?"
"I didn't choose to be Divergent, you know. It chose me. Whether I can put something into a sim, doesn't define me, as a person."
"But your Divergence, does however, and now we have a tape recording of you admitting to your Divergence. Goodbye, Scarlett." Without thinking I pull out the gun and begin to shoot them. I look around at the lifeless bodies on the ground... I did this... I couldn't believe it. I got rid of my threat.
"Screw you!" I screamed then spit on all of their bodies.

When I come out of the sim, I smile, then look over at my administrator. She looks, well, a variety of emotions, scared, concerned, surprised, and shocked.
I clear my throat. "Well?" I already knew the answer, but I didn't want her to know that I did.
"You got all of the five factions..." She says not looking up at me. I try to act shocked but once she looks up at me, she knows I'm faking my surprised reaction.
"You knew? How did you know?! How did you put that sim into your aptitude testing? None of this makes any sense!"
I roll my eyes. "And you think it does to me?"
"You knew the leaders?
"I'm a Dauntless-Amity born." I smirk at her, letting her take it all in, before I continued. "I was born in Dauntless, I lived there for six years, then somehow, the leaders figured out I was Divergent, my mother gave me up to a young Amity couple, and I have lived there for ten years, now I'm going back to Dauntless."
"You're the girl... that they've been looking for all these years? Four told me about this a few months ago... That you would be an initiate this year! The leaders know you're coming back! I mean they took a lucky guess, and it looks like they were correct! You can't go back! They'll kill you!" She shrieked. I got up from the chair.
"That is my choice to make, not yours. Now, may I go?"
She nods, not looking up. I open the door. Then she speaks, "What do you want me to enter manually in for your test result?"
I turn, and look back at her. "Amity." Is all I say. If I want to make sure I hide this I can't put in a Dauntless aptitude, sense the Dauntless leaders know I'm an initiate, and think I'm going to their compound. They'd be to suspicious.
"If you ever need to talk, I work in the tattoo parlor. Just be careful? Alright. You're special when it comes to Divergence."
I look up at her concerned face, and quickly look away. "Thanks." And with that I storm out of the room clenching my fists. Special? No. I don't want to be special. I didn't ask for this. I was ripped away from my old life. I was supposed to grow up in Dauntless, with my mother, and two brothers. The leaders made me give up everything, and now they're going to pay for it.
