Picnic Nightmare

A week of school ended with the same outcome of classmates constantly making statements on me and constantly posting hate on my social media. I lay on my bed with the usual sigh I give myself as I went through my phone looking at the notifications, when I heard a knock on my door. Of course me, not being in the mood to entertain visitors, gets up and answered the door. I wasn't feeling well at the time since after all the occurrences. By the door standing was my friend Ricky who seemed to be holding a flyer. "Oh hey Ricky, what's up?" I said putting my hands in my pockets. Ricky had a huge smile and seemed too excited to even speak. Ricky lent me the flyer and it appears to be a park brochure. I asked him why he lent me a brochure for a park, and why was he excited. "The Owner is inviting us to go on a picnic as a celebration for 2 years of business." I perked up to the news about the picnic trip. I never experienced outdoor activities in quite a while, so maybe this picnic trip won't be so bad.

After another week of hell school, the day of the picnic arrived. I was able to buy a few ingridients to make sandwiches and sodas for the picnic. As I finished packing, someone knocked on my door. I took a peek through my peephole, nobody was there. It's unusual that a knock would come to my door with nobody there. I ignored it and went to my workplace where our big boss was going to meet us.

As I walked past the park, I saw Ricky and the others along with our boss. Looks like they changed the meet-up venue. I approached them waving them good morning and greeting our boss with a big smile everyone rarely sees from me. "Woah someone's happy!" said Ricky giving me a nudge on the shoulder. I nudged him back happily smiling. Our boss explains where we'll be holding the picnic and what vehicle we'll be taking. He said we'll be going Rosswood park, a park that's a hours away from our place. We heard stories about that park to be crawling with murderers, but we thought it was all just a way to scare people. As we continued to discuss about our trip, the van of our big boss arrived. He flagged us down and we climbed into the van. The van was roomy and had enough space to carry a few people.

We left the park on schedule, hitting the highway seeing various sites and different cars pass by. I was listening to music happily minding my own business when I received a text message from an unknown number. I didn't mind it at first until my phone started to spam with messages. It was getting annoying, so I checked the messages. They were...warning texts? It's as if someone is trying to warn us not to go to the park cause of some guy on the loose. Of course, It's all a prank right? I put my phone down laughing it off.

A couple of hours later at 7 pm, We arrive at Rosswood Park. The Park was pretty big and it had  paths leading into the woods. We weren't going to stay for long. We're there to do a bit of eating, playing and mostly just having fun. As we jumped out the van and unpacking everything we needed for the picnic, our friend said he needed to tinkle badly after he had a cup of coffee this morning. "Go into the woods and take a tinkle if you must. Just make sure nobody sees you." said our boss. He nodded and ran towards the trail leading to the woods.

A few minutes later, we finished setting up the picnic table with the snacks and drinks. Our friend who went to tinkle hasn't come back ever since he left. Our boss asked one of us to go check on him, in case he got lost or hurt himself. One of our mates volunteered and went ahead to find the other. We started to eat and chat for a couple of minutes while waiting for the two to come back and join us.

It is now 7:45 pm, yet our two co-workers haven't returned. We all started to worry as their snacks will go to waste, and that they might've lost themselves in the forest.  Our big boss decided we did a search for them just to ensure they're safe and just in case one of us spots them. So our boss assigned each and every one of us with a partner, and I was paired with Ricky. We each took a flashlight and proceeded to different paths into the woods.

It's been a few minutes since we went separate ways into the woods, and still no sight of our co-workers. Me and Ricky searched the west side of the woods, where it was easy enough for us to see through the thin trees. "Where in heaven's name did those two run off to? If we find those two and find out whatever it is they're actually doing, I will sue them for putting us into this danger." said Ricky, as he was walking along with me through more trees and dried shrubs. I myself am worried that they might've lost themselves in the forest or just tumbled down a rough slope. Who knows what happened to them.

A couple of minutes now 8:06, still no sight on our two friends. Me and Ricky were heading back to the picnic table area to meet up with the others, when suddenly we heard footsteps through some of the shrubs. We stopped in our footsteps to look whatever it was that made the noise. "Stay here, I'll go look." said Ricky as he put his hand in front of me. Ricky was a brave guy, but never saw him like this before. Ricky proceeded to hand me the flashlight and instructed me to flash it towards the shrubs. I did what I was told, and he walked into the shrubs. I stood there waiting when I heard Ricky screaming running towards me. "RUN!!!" he yelled. He nabbed my hand and pulled me still running. As we were running, I looked behind us and saw someone chasing us. I couldn't see his face nor could I see what he was holding cause it was already dark. After our long run through the woods, we reached the picnic table where everyone else was waiting, but they looked like as if they were attacked . "What happened?!" asked our boss as he came up to us with a worried look. Ricky explained everything that happened and even showed Bruises on his back, arms and his neck. This worried everyone especially me. Who was that guy chasing us? Was he going to kill us, or was he also running from something?

Our boss informed us that work will be suspended for a few weeks until further notice on the issue, but we will have a meeting and that we'll be contacted about where and when it'll be. He called the police department and an ambulance too for Ricky's bruises and the others as well. When the police arrived with the ambulance, each and every one of us were questioned about this incident. As I was answering my side of the experience, I overheard that this wasn't the only time this happened. In fact, there were several other cases about missing people who entered the trail of Rosswood park's forest area. I spaced out a bit thinking if the two were killed or lost. It might have something to do with the person chasing me and Ricky. The officer then continued to ask me and my co-workers questions.

After a few hours later, 10 pm, We were told to pack-up and go home before any of this comes to a much worse situation. So me and my co-workers began to pack up the snacks and the table getting ready to head home and forget all this ever happened. I was unsure if were even safe anymore. If this was just the beginning of something much worse or something I have to solve on my own.
