When You Wish Upon a Star

Part 1

I was shifting through my locker for my Honors Algebra Book when Maddy my best friend since kindergarten came running up to me with a worried look on her face.

"OMG!! Grace I just saw Heather kissing Jared in the cafeteria. I am so sorry," Maddy said hugging me.

I had had a crush on this boy named Jared and he's been in my class since kindergarten. All of a sudden I start having feelings for him and I didn't know why. The feelings started 2 years ago in 7th grade.I pull away from her and look at her and said

"Thanks but he's so out of my league. It was never going to happen anyway."

I give her a smile and I walk to my class. I walk into the room and my heart stops as I look at Jared sitting at a desk. I did the unbelievable and walked over and sat next to him. He is turned around talking to one of his friends. Once I sit down he turns around and smiles and says

"Hi, Grace right?"

I nod unable to even say a word. My heart was pounding so hard against my chest.

"Are you ok?" He asked looking at me like I was crazy.

I snap out of my thoughts and I could feel my cheeks get hot. I look away and I hear Jared laugh. I can't believe it, he was making fun of me. I said in my head. I barely turn and I see Jared laughing at me with his friend laughing also. I shot my head forward as the tears began to form in my eyes. I didn't look at him for the rest of the class. I did not need him to see me cry. When I finally heard the sound of the bell I hurry to gather all my books when my pencil bag falls and I see Jared bend down and grab it.

"Uh here you go." He said as I snatched my pencil bag out of his hands and ran out the door without saying "thank you" to him. I shoved my books in my locker. I went to 3 other classes. Once those classes were over I went to my locker and grabbed my lunch money. I shut my locker and I headed to the cafeteria. I stood in line and I found Maddy at our usual table. I sit down and I stare at my salad.

"What's wrong?"

"I made a complete fool of myself in front of Jared."

"Why? What happened."

I told Maddy everything, once I finished she didn't say anything she just hugged me and that worked just like words. At the end of the day I got on the bus with Maddy and sat next to the window. I was staring out the window when I heard a familiar laugh and I turn to see Jared and his friend Carter sit across the aisle from us. Maddy put her hand on my shoulder as I turned my attention back toward the window. I watched as the trees, houses and kids flew by us as the bus drove off. The bus stopped and I walked home from my bus stop. I walked up to my doorstep and took my home key from my pocket and put it in the hole and turned it. I pushed open the door and went into the kitchen and found my mom sitting at the kitchen table with her laptop in front of her.

"Hi honey, how was school?

"Fine." I simply say as I open the fridge and grab an apple and head upstairs to my room. I come to my bedroom and instantly smile as I see my pictures of my horse Sacramento . In one of the pictures it's of him in the pasture with the sun setting behind him and he's looking right at the camera. Another is of Sacramento and I at a horse show with me smiling with a blue ribbon in my hand. I laugh as I push my door open and sit on my bed and start my homework. Two hours later I finally finish and I go downstairs into the kitchen to find my sister Kate and her boyfriend Trevor kissing. I clear my throat to get their attention and they pull away and look at me.
"Can't you do that in your room Kate?"

"Sorry baby sis."

"I'm not a baby. I'm a freshman in high school."
Trevor laughed and I gave him a look that made him stop. I went back upstairs and I played Xbox on my tv until Kate came and knocked on my door.
"Go away."
