No one knows much about the Comptrollers of the House of Midnight. Least of all the Comptrollers themselves. Some might call this a weakness. A fatal oversight in an otherwise well-oiled machine. But personally, I've always enjoyed the anonymity this position provides. It allows us to lead this House to the best of our abilities, without worrying about attacks on our personal lives.
Still, I can see the points of people like Comptroller Five who have advocated for more transparency. It is an admirable position to have. But one that fails when applied to our great House. I fear that our wards and the often brutal things we must do to keep them contained would not hold up well to the light of scrutiny. There are some things that people simply do not need to know unless they need to know.
Our services are best completed in the dark of night. It is in the name after all.
