it had been a month since (y/n) (l/n) had became a member of the scouts again, now they were going on their first expedition since people from the 104th cadets had decided to join up with the scout regiment. from what they had been told, this expedition was supposed to be rather simple and easy, so they would be placed with commander erwin smith in the second column, centre command. after one of the blonde's shouting speeches, which he claimed were to raise moral, the scout regiment had began their move out of the inner wall.

luckily enough, (y/n) was seated at the front, behind commander erwin and to the left of hanji zoe. they had claimed the doctor's survival was important as they were a valued member, which made little to no sense to them - they definitely didn't have the strength to take down a titan on their own but they were fast enough to get away. they had barely managed to dodge a ten meter titan when they first came out from the walls, (y/n) could only hope that they wouldn't squeak at the sight of the next titan they would come across.

turns out the commander had a last minute decision and decided to move (y/n) to the special operations squad for expeditions and had sent them off with a guide to the squad, claiming that 'levi had a tendency to be reckless and ignore his own wellbeing'. it wasn't like they could argue with it, so the doctor reluctantly went along with whatever erwin had scheming - silently hoping they wouldn't be facing a lot more titans today. however with their luck, it was going to turn out the opposite to what they wanted and they would be screwed over somehow. (y/n) just hoped they wouldn't run out of medical supplies.

"thank you for guiding me here!" the doctor exclaimed to molbit, who gave them a sheepish nod before quickly riding off to get back to his squad leader who was waiting for him. "be honest, do you think my friends have a shot at taking down a titan?" eren asked oruo, who wore his signature asshole face as they rode through the remains of a town. "huh? you should certainly hope so otherwise what have they spent the last month training for?" the gray haired man reprimanded with little to no hesitation, it seemed like he was a little pissed eren didn't believe in his friends.

"hello you two!" the (h/c-ette; ravenette, brunette) exclaimed, suddenly appearing next to the pair. they had just finished talking with levi, well it seemed to be more of a one sided conversation, about where they should situate themself. he ended up just telling them to stick with oruo and eren till further notice. "eh? (y/n) i thought you were with the commander?" the confused, but also kind of shocked, teenager asked, looking at the older scout who simply wore a smile on their face. they seemed almost blissed out because of the fresher air they were experiencing outside of the walls.

"oh i was! i was assigned to come over here because captain levi has a tendency to be reckless and not look after his own body," they stated nonchalantly, still wearing their blissed out smile as they rode through a flat terrain. the green eyed teenager flinched, would they not get in trouble for saying that? "words from the commander himself," (y/n) added, adjusting their hold on the reigns as they continued to ride on, the leather was rubbing blisters into their palms. if there was anything the (h/c-ette; brunette, ravenette, ect) was proud of, it was how soft they had managed to keep their hands in their line of work.

they were definitely not ruining that with some blisters.

the frowning man let out a grumble before speaking back up, "back to the conversation before i was rudely interrupted. listen, kid! outside scouting missions are about fighting titans as little as possible.." then, he bit on his tongue. you could see the blood squirt out from his mouth as he let out a shriek, petra soon began to laugh at him - hinting that it definitely wasn't the first time he had done something silly like that. (y/n)'s doctor mode had clearly kicked in, even if they had to hold back a laugh, "how badly does it hurt? would you like some water to rinse out your mouth? i don't have any ice so we can't make a cold compress-"

"smoke signals, green," levi murmured to himself before turning to look at his 'admirer' of sorts, "oruo, you fire it." the silver haired man nodded his head, "with pleasure, sir!" before getting out his flare gun and preparing to fire the green flare. moments after his shot had fired, a messenger came to the squad, "right wing spotters decimated! detection network is partly wiped out! please pass the message on to the left!" he exclaimed, almost desperately, beads of sweat running down his face.

it seemed as if his whole face was covered in it, it practically made his face shine in the sun that was glaring down at them. (y/n) was tempted to offer him a drink of water before realising she only had two small flasks of it. "you heard him, petra. go," the short captain commanded, turning to look at the ginger woman who nodded quickly to his command, "yes, sir!" she then broke apart from the squad and headed to the left, the messenger who had come to them rode off too - presumably going back to his own squad.

the (h/c) doctor had jumped out of their skin at the sound of three shots at the same time, their eyes quickly flickered over to look at the black flares that had been shot up into the sky almost in a row. "an abnormal!" the youngest of the squad exclaimed in shock, his eyes immediately going wide as the threat they were dealing with slowly began revealing itself to him. "eren, you fire it," levi stated sharply, not even bothering to look back at the titan shifter who stuttered out a yes sir. "this is disgraceful, we've let them get pretty deep into the formation," the captain mumbled to himself quietly, as if he was saying it to confirm what had happened.

"i'm sure everything will turn out to be fine, the most likely scenario is that it's just an abnormal that the support squads aren't used to dealing with," they stated, as if it was an attempt to comfort the captain, he turned to look at (y/n) - narrowing his eyes as he did. "you heard that?" levi asked in confusion, if he was honest he could barely hear what he had said himself. they simply nodded their head, with a smile, "i have good hearing."

"captain levi! captain levi!"

"what?" the short captain groaned, clearly wishing for as much silence as he could get on this expedition. "'what?' this is a forest, sir! we won't see a titan till it's right on top of us, the centre rank is totally cut off!" eren exclaimed nervously, clear panic on his face as a bead of sweat dripped down the side of it, "somethings coming up on the right, isn't it? how are we supposed to avoid the titans or protect the wagons now?" levi had the most dead pan look on his face at this point. had the kid still not got the hint? they were surrounded by trees. a 3d environment, "quit whining about the obvious, we can't do any of those things anymore." "what are you talking about?" the brunette asked frantically, stumbling over his words.

"take a look at the big ass trees, eren."
