Abby looked down the hall of her school. She was at her locker, putting her things in her bag. She looked back to the right and saw Jack Goode talking to a teacher. She felt her face flush as she smiled.
"Jack, we need to talk about your test score. It was less than ideal," Abby and Jack's English Language Arts teacher said.
Abby pretended not to hear them talking and just walked past. She couldn't help herself and stole a quick glance at Jack.
Even though Abby tried to go unseen, their teacher noticed her. She smiled and stopped Abby from walking away. "Abby! I have an idea. What if you stay after with Jack and help him study? Could you do that?"
She jumped, startled at the sound of her name, but quickly realized what she was asking.
"Of course!" Abby said, happy to volunteer if it meant spending time with Jack.
Jack was a little hesitant but didn't mind if it was Abby helping him.
"Great! We can start tomorrow after school. We're starting a new project because tomorrow, we're sharing our thriller stories," their teacher replied. "Okay, see you both tomorrow!" Abby waves back at her teacher. She snuck one last look at jack and resisted the urge to wink.
Abby began to walk away.
"Abby, wait!" Jack called. Abby stopped dead in her tracks and sucked in her breath, awaiting what Jack had to say.
"Thank you," a slight rose color appeared on his cheeks. "For helping. It really means a lot," he said shyly. His eyes never once broke their gaze on the floor. He held his wrist behind his back while he looked down, avoiding Abby's eyes.
Abby smiled. "No problem." Agh that was so full of yourself, Abby! Who says 'no problem'? Snap out of it. You're reading too much into this. Just chill. Chill. A word that was not well known to Abby when it came to Jack. Whatever. Let's just go home.
She opened her door to her room and plopped down on her bed. She attached her phone to her speaker and started playing Newsies on shuffle. Of course Something To Believe In came on first. Abby belted along to the lyrics. She thought about how she had her own Jack Kelly to yearn over. Oh yes, Jack's middle name is Kelly. Jack Kelly Goode, just thinking the name made Abby blush.
"Focus!" She said out loud to herself. She needed to finish practicing her thriller story. She tweaked some words and made some final adjustments. She read it out loud, of course it flowed perfectly. Abby had a knack for writing.
She threw her pajamas on and checked her phone.
Two messages from kenah_art26. They read: "How was seeing your boy toy 😏" and "I'm ready to write when you are."
Kenah and Abby had a long history of writing this Percy Jackson and Twilight crossover fan-fiction together, late at night.
Abby replied "AHH NO!!" And "Same. I start, right?"
"Yep! Lessgo"
Abby logged onto her computer. She started writing. As always, the words came out perfectly. She was a very talented writer.
As she wrote the romantic tale of Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, she couldn't help but think of Jack.
They kept writing until two in the morning, like they usually did. They both grew tired and decided to go to sleep.
"Goodnight," Kenah texted. Abby responded with the same thing.
It had been about two hours and Abby had heard little pings on her window. She ignored them until they became louder. She woke up to check it out. Who it was startled her.
"Jack?" She asked, a little too loudly, opening her window.
"Abby, hey. I know this is extremely weird and it's really late but I need help. The thriller stories are tomorrow and mine just isn't right," he admitted.
She immediately felt self conscious of her pajamas and messy hair.
"It's okay, come in. But be quiet, my parents are sleeping." She warned. She instinctively grabbed his hand to pull him in. She was still holding it when he was in her room. Jack didn't make any move to remove her hand from his, but unfortunately Abby felt awkward and dropped it.
"Okay, let's start on your story." Abby said, pulling up two chairs to her desk. "Want music on?"
"Sure. I don't care what you pick. I'm fine with whatever," he smiled.
Abby grabbed her phone and turned on Something To Believe In from Newsies. She pulled out a pencil and talked him through the story. She kept stealing glances at him every few seconds. He was doing the same thing but neither of them realized it. Eventually the song ended and their faces were only inches apart. Jack closed the distance and lightly brushed her lips with his. The kiss lasted only seconds but within those seconds, a million universes were born. Ever sense was alive in both of them. Abby could feel every air particle in the room. She closed her eyes and pulled him in again. He pressed into her and closed his eyes. He held her hand and had one hand in her hair, keeping her close.
They both were reluctant to pull away but knew that they had too. Jack noticed a loose strand of hair in her eyes and gently tucked it behind her ear.
"Abby," Jack whispered. "We can't talk about this tomorrow," he sighed sadly.
Abby's heart fell. She knew he was right, though. "Okay so let's make the most of tonight," she smiled, touching his chin.
They laid on Abby's bed, with Abby in Jack's arms. They didn't say a word, they just laid there, enjoying each others comfort. Jack twirled a strand of Abby's hair around his finger. He lightly kissed her head and got up.
"I should go. No one will know about what happened tonight." Jack said.
"Okay," Abby said, knowing Kenah would need to know about this. She would freak out.
She debated texting her but decided against it. Maddie would also need to know. She could just tell them at school the next day.
Abby still had a light rose hue to her cheeks as she turned off the lights and the music. She crawled into her bed but knew she wouldn't be able to sleep that night.
