Keragen's POV:
Today is the funeral and I don't wanna do this. I don't know who would wanna do this either. Luke and I both woke up a few minutes ago and we started getting ready because we had to go get the dinner ready for after the funeral. The viewing and funeral are in the same day.Luke's POV:
I hate seeing Keragen like this. I understand what she is going through. When I lost Chris I didn't know exactly how to handle it. I guess the pain never eally goes away you just learn how to cope with it in everyday life.
"Luke did you ever get over losing Chris?" Keragen asked me while we were downstairs in her room getting ready.
" You never get over it babe. It just gets easier but you still have little times in your life when you think about it and you get sad and cry. I mean just last week i was crying because i went fishing and I was sitting there thinking about how Chris and I always went fishing when we were little. The pain just gets easier to tolerate as time goes on, but sometimes there are things that you wish they would have been there for."
" what helped you get through it?"
" Honestly I worked so hard to keep my mind off of it. i worked at daddy's peanut farm from 5:30 in the morning until midnight just so I wouldn't think about it. That was probably a really bad idea because when i stopped working i would think about it and it would hit me twice as hard. Baby just promise me you will come to me when you are feeling bad about it and ask me anything you need to know."
" okay baby."
Keragen's Pov:
'Luke we need to get going."
When we got there I saw my brother for the first time after he passed. I can't believe this happened. All the times I had with him I took for granted, I regret it all the time now.
Everybody started showing up and Luke was by my side the whole time.
My grandma Linda finally showed up. I love her to death she was the only grandma I could talk to about anything. My other grandmas wouldn't listen so I naturally gravitated towards my grandma Linda I helped her with everything through high school. Of course she lived like 30 minutes away from me and it sucked. She still comes over every Christmas Eve and stays the night at our house. She was actually the first person I told that me and Luke were dating and she finally gets to meet him.
" Mamaw!" I said and hugged her while Luke was talking to Stephen and my daddy.
" Hey KK." She said. KK is my nickname only my grandma can call me, nobody else does.
" Is Luke here?" My mamaw asked.
"Yeah he is over there talking to daddy and Stephen."
" He is a cutie. Do you want to meet him?" I asked her.
"Why else would I ask if he was here if I didn't wanna meet him."
" Jeez mamaw you don't gotta be so mean. Stay here and I will go get him."
I walked over to where Luke and daddy were.
" Hey baby will you come with me I got somebody who wants to meet you."
We walked over to mamaw.
" Luke this is my mamaw Linda. Mamaw this is my Boyfriend Luke Bryan."
" Nice to meet you ma'am." Luke said giving her a hug.
" You too luke. You can just call me mamaw." She said to Luke.
" Hopefully you have been treating my little KK right." Mamaw told luke.
"Nothing but the Best for my princess."
"You guys are so cute you remind me of your grandpa Larry and me when we were young." Grandma said." Well I better go see your Brother and dad."
My grandma Theresa and Grandpa Randy showed up. They are so rude to everybody. They think they are perfect when they really aren't that great. I still love them but they look down on everyone.
" Hello Keragen." My grandma Theresa said.
" Hey grandma. How are you doing?"
"Good we drove straight up here from South Carolina today so we are a little tired."
" Oh. Do you guys wanna meet my boyfriend?"
" Of course." My moms step dad said.
I went and got Luke I didn't tell him anything about my grandparents because if they don't like him it doesn't really matter because they are never home.
" Hello." My grandma said to Luke.
"Hello Ma'am." Luke said shaking my grandma's hand.
" Hello sir." Luke said shaking Randy's hand.
Randy is my moms step dad and my grandmas 4th husband. Let's just say she hasn't had much luck. I don't call Randy grandpa because he ain't my grandpa.
" How did you two meet?"
" I was walking in to the main office at Georgia Southern and I ran into Luke and he helped me and Darian with our stuff. Turns out he was Stephen's roommate. We went up to Stephen's room and we all hung out for a little bit and the next night me and Luke went on a date and we started dating."
"That sound real safe Keragen you don't know if he could have gotten in trouble or could've caused you harm."
" Grandma are you dumb Luke would never do that to me. Just because you had problems like that doesn't mean I am going to have problems like you. I'm not you grandma would you quit comparing everybody to yourself for once and look at the good in life. It is so annoying. I don't even know why you guys came here because last time I checked you didn't care about anybody but yourself." I said and walked to mama and started crying.
"What happened?" my mama asked me.
"Your mother. She was doing what she normally does to everybody." I told her.
"How about you and Luke go talk to everybody and I will talk to her."
Me and Luke went to talk to the rest of my family.
~the funeral~
Everybody took their seats and the pastor came up and started talking. Then Stephen went up there to talk. After he was done it was my turn. Luke gave me a hug and then I went up there and started to talk. I haven't cried yet but now I'm going to.
" Hello everybody. I'm gonna do this from the heart unlike Stephen who came up here with it already wrote out. Dustin was probably the one I could talk to about everything that was going on in my life. We would sit up in my room and just talk with me about everything. He would talk about when we were little and how I was his only sister and he would protect me with his life. When I got the call saying that he had passed away my whole world fell apart. I didn't stop crying. I haven't really even stopped yet. I wish that I could go back in time and just not take all the times that we had for granted. He always promised that he was gonna watch me graduate from college and he was gonna be there for my wedding. But now he gets a better view from where he is at. He is with god and he is happy. I can't wait to see him again. Love you Bubby." I started crying at about the second sentence.
After I talked Luke and Shania sang the song and then it was over.
We went to the cemetery and we did the little cemetery service and then everybody went to eat but me and Luke just went back to my house because I was tired.
"Hey babe?" Luke said.
" Yes?"
"When we go back to Georgia do you wanna go stay with my family for a little while?"
"Of course."
"Okay well we are leaving here tomorrow right?"
"Yep and I will just pack stuff that I have here and we will just go straight to your mama's house."
"Sounds good. We have to go see daddy and Kaye too."
"Okay that sounds good."
