Rhett

It was my fourth time tonight going around the West Street, where Victoria Foundation building and Jennings' campaign office were located. I shouldn't let this case pressure me, but with all the things that was going on, it seemed like the world would end if I let Norris' murder pass through the Election Day, especially when the police found a false lead about it.

Whatever happened in Election Day would certainly be the start of Bridgewald's doomsday. If The Exclusives had their people in the government after eliminating the threats, their wrongdoings would be covered up and people who have been wronged couldn't get justice they deserved.

That was exactly what I was trying to say to Chief Snell this afternoon after I finished my drawings. Coming to the station that was crowded by reporters, I was stopped by Officer Lake.

"Get out of my way, Officer. I need to speak to the Chief," I insisted on going through the reporters, but her firm hands kept holding me.

"The Chief issued an official statement to ban Rhett Carver from the station," she told. "He said he emailed it to you as well."

It sounded like a mean joke, but he really did it the day I saw Ethan Barlow in the station. It was ironic to think that he put more efforts to keep me away than to actually listen to me.

"Please. I need to see my uncle."

"He's technically not your uncle."

"Do you prefer me saying 'I need to see my dad's best friend for 40 years whom he considers as a brother'? Because yeah, I got all the time in the world to describe him in details," I said sarcastically.

"Mr. Carver," she called calmly, even though I was sure she was close to scream at my face, "I think it would be wise to follow his order. He's not exactly in the mood."

"I would say that he's never 'in the mood', but after arresting someone? I thought he'd be so happy even though he was wrong," I mumbled. "I talked to him last night. It didn't seem like he would arrest Pierce—at least not this fast. Did something happen?"

"Well... He found a connection to a past case, which Mr. Pierce was also involved," Officer Lake told in a low voice. "The murder of a construction company owner."

"Jonathan Garner," I sighed. Hearing that, I was both relieved and worried. Relieved, because I knew Chief Snell probably could make the connection between Jonathan Garner's murder and the folder I gave him if he wanted to dig a little deeper. Worried, because it definitely wouldn't be good for both Avery and Noel. And once it was out to the public, The Exclusives would catch a fire on their pants. But, with Evans and Barlow being the insider, they probably had known about this and made a plan B to keep their plan A going.

"Of course, you've already known about that," she sneered, knowing that the news hadn't covered about it yet.

"My brother-in-law worked at the Havenbrook PD when it happened, so he kind of told me a thing or two," I grinned. "It was never resolved, right? Did the Chief, I don't know, interrogate someone else that probably had something to do with that case?"
