The other night

A heavy sigh escaped from my lips as I stepped inside the house. "Jun!" My mother approached me with a smile yet it immediately faltered once she looked at my face. "W-What happened?"

I simply smiled faintly in reply along with a little shrug. "Did... you tell her?" She asked in concern with a hint of curiosity as her brows raised.

"I ended it, mom, I did it."

Her eyes widened for a moment upon my reply. "End what, Jun?"

"I'm sorry. I broke up with her."

She gasped as she stared at me in disbelief. "But why, son?"

My gaze fell to the floor as I felt so speechless. No word dared to escape and by each passing second, her face and her words replayed endlessly inside my head. "I don't know. I think it's the only choice and... it's for the best."

Before I knew it, tears sprung from my eyes. "I didn't know it's this hard to do something that's against your will, mom. I hurt her. I hurt her so much."

As I continued to sob, I felt a pair of arms creeping to my shoulders before my mom pulled me into her embrace. "I saw how she walked away from me with pain in her eyes. I wanted to hold her tight in my arms and never let her go. But what could I do? What's said was done already."

"I'm here. Mom's here."

"I don't know what to do now, mom. I feel so messed up. Like a jerk who doesn't deserve to live." A sarcastic laugh then escaped from my lips. "It's just right that I don't have enough time left. I can't believe I hurt the girl I love most."

"No! Don't say that!" My mom cried out. "I told you to tell her the truth. Breaking up with her is so much worse than being honest, Jun. This choice will be your biggest regret. It's even against your will and not to mention the fact that you broke two hearts; yours and hers. You need to fix this. I know she'll just understand. You need her Jun. I know she'll always be there for you."

"It'll hurt her more, mom. It'll hurt her more once she'll know the fact that I won't stay in this world for long... that I won't stay by her side until the end." By this time, my chest felt so tight that more warm tears fell from my eyes.

"No Jun. There's still hope okay? A little hope can overcome your biggest fear."

"I don't know any more mom."

"Just tell her sooner, okay? You deserve so much more than what you think. So stop telling such things."

Present time

"I'm almost there hyung."

"Thanks a lot, Hyuk. Thank you so much for making time for this."

"Hmm."

A heavy sigh then escaped from my lips as soon as he ended the call with a single hum. "I'm sorry Hyuk," I muttered under my breath as my gaze trailed off to the window. In a few, my phone buzzed, signaling a text.

I gasped upon the sender's name. "My one and only star," I read repeatedly in disbelief. "Byeol," I murmured under my breath.

My heart drummed as I opened her message.

From: My one and only star ♡

I miss you.

My breath hitched upon her message. Who knew that three simple words could make you feel tons of emotions in a fraction of a second? And before I knew it, tears sprung from my eyes as I felt my chest tightening.
