Parker's POV

We're watching a romance movie. Don't judge - boys can like romances too. We snuggle into the blankets, his arm around me. It's casual, friendly even.

"Nooo, he can't die!" I yell at the TV like I'm 8 again. Suddenly, Dan kisses Jonathan and the credits start rolling. Even though I'm in the dark, I can feel mine and Jae's faces turning crimson. He shrugs his arm off me.

I don't care. Yes you do, liar.

The glaring lights blind my eyes as Jae turns around to look at me. He looks so goofy right now, his eyes squinting jokily.

"I don't want to go back home." He admits, smiling. Me neither.

"Nick and Ashley should be back soon." I hesitate. I don't want to talk about it but I really don't want Jae to meet them.

"Oh, you call your parents that?"

My chest feels heavy "They're not my parents. More like really really poor substitutes."

"Oh."

"Anyways, you're going to have to face your parents sometime, Lake." I steer off the subject.

"I know. It's just hard. I knew things were bad but I always thought they'd stick together in the long run." He says calmly "I think I'm going to be fine though."

"Good."

He grabs his coat "Bye Jones."

"Bye." I watch him walk out and drive off. I sigh and quickly tidy up all the tea. Nick really is going to kill me if he finds his house in a mess. I give my neighbors the rest of the milk. They never give me any money so they'll be suspicious. I've got a secret bank account for emergencies e.g. if I ever need to run away. Or to buy organic milk. Same thing.

I hide in my room once I hear the expensive car drive into the garage. I don't want to face them. It's late at night so it's almost certain, they went out to drink. I hear muffled drunk shouts and laughs. I wait quietly for the sounds to disappear. They don't. Please, please, please let them fall asleep. My door opens with a slam.

Crap, crap, crap, crappity crap.

"Andrew, darling," Ashley's voice slurs out "I really don't know you very well. Why don't we get to know each other better?"

She pins me to the wall and chokes my neck. I gasp and try to speak but all that comes out is small splutters. Her long black nails scrape into my skin, leaving blood to trickle out slowly. She brings herself closer to me, her whole body stinking of tequila. I'm frozen in time. It's terrifying.

"Ashley, stop!" I finally grasp the words. She grins idiotically and pushes her face close to mine.

"FOR GOD'S SAKE, STOP!!" I scream, tears pouring down my face.

"Don't you want to?" She bats her eyelashes innocently. It makes me sick.

"No!" I sob out. She shrugs and walks out of the room silently. I'm left crying on the floor, sinking in my own depression.
