It was finally the last day of school and Rachel had been urging me to join tonight's party. I told her I still had to pack my stuff for the beach tomorrow but she insisted I join the party. Well she agreed to help me pack my stuff after the party so I accepted her invitation. Besides, Rachel throws the best parties so it was hard to deny that offer.

"Fine, but on one condition", I stared at her eyes seriously " You will not get drunk", She laughed and walked away.

"You don't tell me what to do!" she shouts as she approaches other students in the hallway inviting them to the party. Rachel was the kind of girl that you would immediately get along when you first meet. She knew how to handle awkward situations and she was charismatic. She was planning to dye her hair blonde this summer because her horoscope told her she would meet her soulmate if she did. Sometimes, I just don't understand her.

A ball suddenly hit my back and I heard Brett call out my name , "Dante! When are you gonna learn to catch a ball ", he approaches and slightly punches my shoulders. I chuckled and started to walk with him.

We both lived near each other so we usually go home together. He is my oldest childhood friend and we basically became brothers. He is so comfortable of my home that sometimes he just grabs a food from my fridge and eats it. I don't get mad because I do the same and we were really close, if it were a different person, I would've kicked them out of my house. Okay that was over exaggerating, I don't have the guts to kick someone out of my house.

As I got home I grab a quick set of clothes for tonight's party. It was a long and troublesome debate between a jersey shirt or an old sweater, nevertheless I picked neither and just decided to wear a jacket. I came out of my room and Brett looks at me from the bottom to the top and gave me a criticizing look. He just shrugs and heads to the living room.

"Sweetie? Are you upstairs?" My mom calls out to me and I went downstairs.

"Well Mrs. Briscott, I promise you, I will protect your son from all alcoholic beverages and make sure he is home by eleven", Brett makes a bow and my mom smiled at him.

"How many times do I have to tell you to call me Amanda, besides you've been visiting this house for ten years", my mom replied.

Ten years?! I never knew I was friends with Brett for that long, it seems to me that we just became friends last year! Time does fly fast when you're having fun.

Brett leaves the house and starts his car and honks the horn. "Let's go Dante!"

I give my mom a hug and she whispers to me, "Stay safe, love you". I nod and gave my mom a kiss in the cheek and went to Brett's car. It was surprisingly clean, usually his car was dirty and smelled like an afternoon of soccer practice. It was surprisingly shocking and I noticed we weren't going to Rachel's.

      "Where are you heading Brett?"

"Picking up my cousin, they just moved here today and I asked Rachel if it was okay to invite him"

I furrowed my eyebrow, I was wondering which cousin he was talking about. Brett had A LOT of cousins and it seemed that he had more cousins than students in our school. He might be talking about Santiago, who kinda owes me money for a soda. Or Raymond, the guy that always brings a guitar with him. Wait, oh no... He might be bringing Corey, Rachel's Ex!

      "Brett who did you invite?"

"Corey", Brett exclaims but he cuts me before I could speak, "Now before you get mad, I already asked Rachel's permission to bring an ex to the party... although I have to treat her for a lunch someday for it"
