Part 4: Spin the Bottle

We had just finished dinner and Montana started cleaning up. I look at Brett and noticed he was still unhappy with me. At some point I would have to explain to him why it would be bad, but Brett is very stubborn. I approach Allison who had just started setting the bonfire.

"Need any help?", I asked.

"You could maybe talk to Brett?"

"Why would I do that?"

"Because I noticed you guys seemed to be ignoring each other, plus both of you are inseparable", Allison laughs and was kindling the firewood.

Something about what Allison said gave me thought, Brett's focus on his relationship with Rachel broke the bond we both had. He is too caught up with her that he doesn't realize that he still has friends. Another side of me thinks that if he finally gets through with Rachel, the drama would be all over.

I approach Montana and asked her, "What if we play spin the bottle?"

"Okay Dante, I don't know how desperate you are for sex, but can't you see we are only seven people? Imagine how awkward this would be for the next few days?", she crossed her arms and tilted her head.

"I know but I really want Brett to get a chance making out with Rachel, and I promise you after they kiss, I will end the game"

"Fine, but how are you going to make the bottle accurately point to Rachel? Plus wouldn't Brett spin the bottle and not you?"

"That's why I would offer to spin the bottle for Brett and I will make sure it will aim for Rachel"

Montana nods and walks away. I noticed Allison had already set up the bonfire and I called for everyone to gather around.

"What activities did you get in mind?", Rachel asked.

"I was thinking of spin the bottle, perhaps?"

"Why would you pick that?", Rachel replied.

"That would be very awkward for all of us", Allison added.

"Let's just do a spin for one round?", I look over to Montana, "Right?"

Montana looks at me annoyed and rolls her eyes, "Just one round guys!"

Rachel, Brett, Montana, Drew and Allison gathered in a circle and I pour out the remaining liquid in the beer bottle. I pointed the bottle in the opposite side of Rachel and I calculated my outcomes. I spun the bottle and it pointed at Rachel.

"Let's see who's the lucky man tonight?", I exclaimed.

"Rachel bout to get some action!", Allison added.

I pointed the bottle from the opposite direction of Brett. I wanted to add some intensity so I strengthened my grip and spun the bottle greatly. Suddenly Corey arrives and Brett scoots over for a space for Corey. My mind suddenly went silent. The bottle's acceleration had decreased and it was slowing down. It then pointed at Corey who saw the bottle and had a shocking expression.

I looked at Rachel and Corey and my mouth was open in awe. Brett looks at Rachel and I could see the sadness in his eyes. Allison and Drew chant out Rachel's name and supported her to kiss Corey. Montana looked at me and gave me 'what is this?' expression. Suddenly it happened.

Rachel stood up and leaned forward to Corey, the both looked at each others eyes and lips and started kissing. Brett stood up and started running towards the coastal shore. Montana gestures me to follow him and so I did. I ran up to Brett and chased him.

Brett just stood in front of the shore as the waves hit the tip of his shoes and returned. It was windy and the stars were clearly visible. I stood next to Brett as he watched the dark sea and contemplated on his decisions.

"This is my fault", Brett tells me.

"No, its my fault"

"I shouldn't have let my love Rachel come between our friendship", he looks at me and crosses his arms to provide warmth from the cold sea breeze.

"No, I shouldn't have started the spin the bottle, I made sure that the bottle would land on you but Corey got in the way", I looked at Brett, gave him a smile and returned to facing the vast sea.

Brett places his arms around my shoulders and placed his head on my shoulders, "You know what, you were right, it was a bad idea bringing Corey along".

Corey, ever since he came back home I encountered new problems and new situations. He made me feel confused about myself, he made Rachel like him and he broke my friendship with Brett. He has been the problem this whole time. But how do I tell that to Brett? I haven't opened up to anyone about my sexuality since I literally discovered this yesterday! Where do I even begin explaining this to Brett.

"Brett there's something I gotta say tell you"

"Tell me what?", Brett looks at me and raises his eyebrows.

"I think I'm", I paused and I hoped not to regret it, "I'm gay and I like Corey"

Brett smiles and pats my shoulder and returned to staring at the sea. You can sense the happiness from him when you can see his smile even when it is dark.

"I'm proud of you, and I'm happy you told me about it", a tear was slightly exiting my eye.

"You're not embarrassed for being friends with me?"

"Embarrassed, heck I should be bragging to people", he quickly laughs and looks at me, "But in all seriousness, you are still my friend and I have support you on whatever you on whatever you do, that's what friends are for", he wraps his arms around me and I did the same.

We both stared at the sea for a while and shared quick jokes before returning to the group.

"Are you gonna tell the others about it?", Brett asks.

"I'll tell them when the time is right"

Brett smiled and continued walking towards the group. As we walked approached the bonfire, Rachel runs past us crying. I gestured Brett to follow Rachel while I went back to the group.

Corey tried to run after Rachel and I stopped Corey, "What happened with Rachel?"

"She asked me if she could be my boyfriend", he looked me and his face became upset, "I said no"

I looked at the rest of the group and notice Montana approaching me, "I like how your plan turned out", she laughed and went back inside the house, "Let me get my beauty sleep and see how this plays out in the morning"

Corey scratches his head and also goes back inside the house. I wanted to follow him but I wanted everyone to just relax after what had just happened. I thought this vacation was suppose to go the way I planned. This vacation just took one heck of a turn.
