(AN: here it is: the final chapter of Alive. DONT BE UPSET DONT BE UPSET THERE IS A SEQUEL... I just haven't gotten around to starting it yet... So be patient... :3)
"Where are you hiding?" Instinct purred, checking under the bed.
But no way was Cyn dumb enough to hide there.
She had been following around instinct the whole time he'd been downstairs, and he hadn't noticed. She felt like she was winning. But she was fully aware that this wasn't the case.
If Instinct so much as saw her, it was incredibly likely that she was dead.
She, like many others who would if they were in her situation, was getting the 'fuck that shit get the fuck outta here' vibes. But... Again. Instinct wasn't the only person there. She remembered Sam sobbing on her office floor, smiling brightly at the sight of a simple pine tree, that one sunset. The lake.
She thought about these things and in an instant something ran through her veins. Something strong. Far stronger than the minor hand of fear. She thought for a moment. "I don't want to believe that he's gone, but what if I'm wrong?' No.
Because there was no way his batteries were out yet, it would have taken a while to really reboot him from that. So it was just... Well... She didn't know what it was. But SAM was still there. She was sure of it.
If only she could find a way to bring him back.
Instinct laughed angrily and she heard him sit on the bed, saying, "I know you're still here. So I'll tell you a story." A silence ensued, which she assumed was him thinking.
She was startled by his sudden reverie, but held her ground. He was probably going for shock value anyway.
"Well, once upon a time, there were two engineers, working under a snobby, small-minded man named Walter.
Walter was clearly up to something, and the scientist were suspicious. So they contacted their superiors, but the superiors wouldn't do anything about it. Said they need him or something.
"So my creators decided to take matters in their own hands. They snuck into the lab one night and prepared a malicious and malevolent creature out of binary code and pure spite, and they called him Instinct. Because they were fully aware of the terrible core that lies inside of every single human. Instinct,"
He smirked and continued.
"And they loaded him onto this piece of junk," he hit himself, "without the knowledge that there was already a predominant creature there. The guy whining inside me right now."
So he was still there... At first relief washed over her and then anger took control, coursing like poison through veins.
She shifted and the floor creaked.
He paused and then continued.
"So, for God knows how long, I've been here, teasing, poking, prodding, preparing for the day when I could finally be me. And.. It looks as if that day has finally come."
She scowled.
"Maybe it's time I told you that I've been using the time I spent telling this story to figure out where you are. And I know your exact location now."... Shit.
-------
"Don't you dare..." He said.
Instinct ignored him , just as Sam used to.
"... You're so full of hate that before I didn't think it possible," Sam observed. Instinct said, "it's time to give up now, Cynthia, I've found you. It's over."
Sam heard shuffling in the hallway and struggled against his invisible bonds, again, failing, just like every other time. But that didn't at all mean he was going to give up.
"..no."
Sam cheered for her retort but Instinct shushed him harshly, cutting him off before he could say anymore.
Cynthia walked slowly into the bedroom, frightened, holding a vase that wasn't going to help her at all.
Sam sighed.
".... Sam ...."
His head whipped up at the sound of his name, but other than that instinct kept precise control on his movements.
"Yes?" He whispered, but he wasn't heard. Instinct suppressed him.
"Sam, you're there... I know you are..."
"YES! I AM! COME FREE ME! PLEASE! I LOVE YOU! IM COMING BACK!"
"Sam is dead. Only I remain."
A sinking feeling of despair washed over Sam.
"You're lying."
"Yes, he is! PLEASE, CYN! DONT BELIEVE HIM! I PROMISE, ITS ME!"
"If he were still here I would know."
A long silence and Sam saw the cogs turning in her head. She went pale.
"If sam isn't there, then why do you want to kill me?"
"Shut up..."
"SAM IS STILL IN THERE, YOU FILTHY LIAR! LET ME OUT, LET ME FREE! YOU DONT BELONG HERE!"
"Aaaaaaaagh!"
Instinct ran up to her, furious, and tried to punch her, but Sam, having a little more power because of instinct's confusion, directed the punch instead into a wall.
"SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!!"
"I will be free, Instinct..."
"SHUT UP!"
"You can't stop me..."
There was an animalistic howl from instinct and he maintained complete control again, grabbing Cynthia and hurling her to the floor. "Noooooo!" Sam tried to interfere, but nothing happened. Nothing happened...
-------
He hurt me.
He HURT me.
No, no. It wasn't him.. But still...
A purple-glowing RCA stared down at Cynthia in mortification, then flared red and was tackling her.
Hitting her.
Her vision went black...
Hit after hit, after hit... She felt like she was being submerged in water.. A little deeper each.. Hit..
Pain... This is true pain...
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Purple again, he covered his eyes and wailed in sorrow, looking inconsolable and furious at the same time.
This presented Cynthia an opportunity. She waited for her vision to clear of black spots and then grabbed his arm. He looked down at her, half frowning, half scowling.
"Please, Sam... I can see you... Please come back to me... Sam.. Come on... I know... I know you're there..."
He just continued to stare, until eventually he flared a deep red again, and raised his arm high to strike her one last time...
And she lifted herself up and kissed him.
Not an anything-special type of kiss, just a simple kiss, on the lips, straightforward but pained.
This was Sam's victory.
The blue of his body came flushing back and he backed away from her, afraid and sad.
"You're back..." She said, holding her face. "I was scared there for a second, that you wouldn't come back to me."
He shook his head.
"I almost killed you..."
"No, you didn't! It wasn't you, and besides, I was fine... And he's gone now, we have nothing more to worry about..."
"NO, NO NO NO, HE'S STILL THERE! I CAN FEEL HIM. I CAN FEEL HIM!"
She stared at him, concerned for this sudden reaction.
"AND I HURT YOU! I AM GOING TO HURT YOU AGAIN!"
"No, you're not, he's-"
"HES NOT GONE! BY NO ELEMENTARY MEANS IS HE GONE!"
He stood up and ran to the back door, Cyn sprinting behind him.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOURE DOING, SAM?"
He stood close to her, and touched her hair with sorrow and adoration in his expression.
"I'm sorry, Cyn," he said, and ran off into the forest in the cabin's backyard.
