°get a tan or something °

___

Daisy was snapped out of her trance by the sound of her mother's voice, as she opened the door.

"Wake up, sweetheart. First day of school." Joy said gently. Surprise crossed her face as she saw her daughter not in bed, but already dressed, sitting by the window, staring at the woods outside.

Daisy didn't look up from her staring spot, as she felt her mother coming closer to her and sitting beside her. She welcomed her mother's warm touch as Joy wrapped a hand around the girl's shoulders.

"How long have you been awake?"

"Since sunrise." The blond muttered. The silence stretched between them as they observed the thick layer of clouds shielding the sun from shining upon the  small town.

Daisy's fingers started to tap her knees  uncontrollably in a fast pace. She couldn't sit still for much longer usually. She sighed and turned towards her mother, trying to keep the fear she felt away from her ocean blue eyes, but to no avail. Her mother could see right through her. Joy Hendrix smiled gently and squeezed her daughter closer to her.

"I'm scared." Daisy whispered as she closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth her mother radiated, despite the cold weather outside.

"I know, sunshine."

The blond girl smiled. Sunshine was a nickname she had since she could remember. Usually her mother and a few chosen friends she had called her that. It was something she loved, something the calmed her.

"I just... I don't want to screw up again. I don't want to disappoint you. I-I want this time, this school and town to work. To last." Joy looked down at her daughter, seeing the way she tapped her knees continuesly, her foot starting to move too, hitting gently the floor.

"You can never disappoint me, Daisy. Not you and not your brother. You just have to believe in yourself, okay?" Daisy looked up at her mother. Seeing the genuine smile she gave her, calmed her nerves down.

"Okay."

Her mother nodded. "Now let's go and wake up your brother, before he sleeps through his first day of school."

David Hendrix heard the laughter from upstairs coming from the mother and daughter. He smiled, his eyes twinkling as he sipped his boiling coffee.
