After a couple days of getting used to regular classes, the class that the students were most excited for comes. Hero Basic Training with All Might. After the students got changed into their hero costumes, they went out to a city battle field for the class. Izuku’s hero costume was made by his mom, based off of a design she saw in his notebook. He wore a green jumpsuit, with a white Cape flowing behind him.
All Might explained that there will be a drill consisting of a hero team and a villain team. The villain team will be protecting a bomb, and the hero team will have to secure the weapon. After pulling lots, the first team in the exercise was the hero team: Izuku and Uraraka, and the villain team: Bakugou and Iida.
Izuku and Uraraka walked into the building, and began strategizing. When they turn a corner, Bakugou ambushes them. Bakugou goes to hit Izuku with a right hook, but he’s able to react fast enough to grab his arm and throw him across the hallway. Bakugou’s back hit the wall as cracks form around where he landed. They decide it’ll be faster to capture the bomb than to waste time by restraining Bakugou. Uraraka and Izuku quickly split up, as Uraraka searched the 2nd floor and Izuku the 1st.
Izuku quickly surveyed the bottom floor by jogging, where he got a message from Uraraka through his headset. “Hey! The weapon is in the middle of the 5th floor” “Got it, stay hidden while I get there.” Izuku replied. When he was running towards the stairs to the 2nd floor, he stops after he hears an angry voice calling him
“DON’T THINK YOU CAN GET AWAY THAT EASILY DEKU” Bakugou yells at him with a hand on his hip, supporting his posture. “I didn’t think you would’ve been able to get up after getting slammed into the wall like that” Izuku comments. “There you go looking down on me again!” Bakugou growls, preparing to charge. Izuku presses his headset and tells Uraraka to stay in position, as he’d be preoccupied with Bakugou. Uraraka responds that Iida found her location, and apologises.
Izuku pushes off of the ground and rushes towards Bakugou, hoping that the fight would end quickly. Bakugou defends by creating a wide explosion to make a cushion between him and Izuku. Izuku got pushed back, and slid back a bit.
Izuku thinks to himself, “The weapon is in the middle of the 5th floor, which is directly above us, and Uraraka needs backup. I have to end this quickly.” He gets ready to go after Bakugou again, but stops when one of his gauntlets glows red. Bakugou starts laughing, and explains that the gauntlet stores his nitroglycerin-like sweat in them, meaning that it can be used to set off an explosion stronger than he can naturally.
Bakugou brings his arm up, and pulls the clip. “YOU MAY BE STRONGER, BUT YOU CAN’T DO ANYTHING AGAINST THIS.” Izuku brings his arms up into an X shape to make a blocking stance, as the explosion rushes at him like a tsunami.
“All Might this is getting serious! That Bakugou guy really is crazy, you should stop this!” Kirishima urges. “No” All Might affirms. Some of the students looked at the teacher questioningly. “Yes, young Bakugou may be strong, but I know that young Midoriya will be able to handle this.”
The smoke clears as Bakugou walks towards Izuku. “How…” Bakugou starts “How are you still up!?” Izuku brings his arms down, as he stays on guard.
“Bakugou! Don’t set off that attack again. Even as a villain you shouldn’t be destroying the stronghold you’re supposed to be protecting. You’re going to lose points for this!” All Might announces over the speakers. Bakugou clicks his tongue and moves his focus back to Izuku.
Bakugou seethes with anger as he clenches his fists. "YOU NEVER SHOULD'VE BEEN ABLE TO COMPARE TO ME! YOU'RE STILL ONLY A QUIRKLESS DEKU!"
Bakugou charges at him again, and feints with a right hook. He uses an explosion to go over Izuku’s head, and attempts to set off an explosion against his back. Izuku turns around, which catches Bakugou off guard as he gets punched in the jaw before he is able to make his attack. Bakugou drops to the floor as Izuku quickly wraps the capture tape on him.
The class is taken aback for a moment. "Did Bakugou just call Midoriya...quirkless?"
When Izuku reached the room with the weapon, he sped past Iida and touched the bomb before he was able to react. “Hero team wins!”
All Might reviewed the exercise with the class, as Izuku was announced to be the MVP, along with other general criticisms. A girl named Yaoyorozu, made comments about what each person did well, and what they didn’t. “Bakugou was clouded with anger, and set off a large-scale attack inside the very building he was supposed to be protecting. Uraraka let her guard down and gave away her position to Iida. Although Iida did well in the exercise as well, Midoriya did more things to advance the hero team to victory.”
After the classes ended, Izuku was talking to some of his classmates about how their battles went.
Izuku then confirms to the class that what Bakugou said was correct. He is in fact, quirkless. The students were all shocked and bombarded Izuku with questions, to which he responded truthfully. Despite his transparency, some students refused to believe that he truly was without a quirk.
After exchanging compliments, Izuku looked around and asked, “Where did Bakugou go?” Kirishima answered “Uh, I think he left a bit ago”
Izuku walked outside, and called out to Bakugou when he saw him walking away.
He stopped in his tracks, and kept his back turned to Midoriya. "I noticed that you called me quirkless. Does that mean you believed me?" Bakugou slowly replied, "Does it matter? You beat me, isn't that what you should be caring about?"
Midoriya replied, "Being a hero isn't about winning." Bakugou's anger started to come to surface while saying, "All the heroes at the top never lose. Hell, All Might never loses and you IDOLIZED him our whole lives."
Bakugou's true nature was shining true and Midoriya was disappointed by his corrupted view of what a hero is. "I idolized him because he saved people with a smile. It wasn't about his quirk, it was about his presence (although I won't deny that his quirk added to his presence). What makes you a hero isn't the license, or ranking, it's the fact that you want to help people out of the goodness of your heart. If your only drive to be a hero is to surpass someone at the top of the rankings and be powerful, then what's stopping you from being a villain?"
After hearing Izuku's last sentence, Bakugou couldn't help but feel pissed. He was pissed that he was being told off by someone who he used to see as useless, and the fact that he saw him as useless to begin with. He hated that Izuku was right.
Midoriya kept going, and exposed his true thoughts of Katuki. "You're no better than an actual villain. You've told me to off myself and you want to be a hero? You beat up SO many people growing up and you want to go into a profession that's supposed to save people? Not to mention that you say 'die'? What the hell even is that? All you care about is showing your quirks superiority but that won't matter when people find out you've beat up a quirkless student for YEARS. Are you going to beat up other heroes for thinking they can make it to the top in order to 'put them in their place?' WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE? (How did you even make it into UA with your record of death threats, bullying, assaults, quirk usage, and all the other shit you've done) IF ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IT BEATING ALL MIGHT AND BEING STRONG THEN BE A VILLAIN! You used to say 'heroes never lose' so go ahead and prove the heroes wrong then. There's nothing stopping you from surpassing them that way because you've shown NO reason to care about anyone else besides yourself. You're not the person that goes and saves people without thinking, you're the one people try and save others from."
Izuku opens his eyes after spilling his thoughts and emotions out, only to see Bakugou walking away. He took a deep breath and looked behind him, only to see his classmates standing behind him, mouths agape.
